This was my favorite drinking spot on my recent quick trip to Barcelona. It's a few blocks up from my hotel just off of Passeig de Gracia, just past the Egyptian Museum of Barcelona. If you're not looking for it, you will walk right past it as it's though two small double doors and down a staircase.
This place retains charm and decor from the 40s or 50s and lots of cool memorabilia adorn the walls. There are lots of plush arm chairs to settle into to hear the jazz music piping through amidst the low light, or you can try to grab a seat at the small bar but it gets mighty packed on weekends.
They mix some wicked cocktails or you can settle for a beer if that's your thing. Regardless you'll want to stay for a while and just soak up the intimate atmosphere because it just invites you to linger.
I was only in Barcelona two and half days and I made it here twice. My second visit here was my last stop of the night of my final evening in Barcelona, which was a Sunday night. The crowd was thinning out and I got the chance to meet and speak with Adrian, who is the owner's son. We had some cool conversation, and when the last of the patrons left, he busted out his harmonic and sang the blues for me. I LIVE for stuff like this and this is why I travel. Alas, Adrian's Dad showed up and it was time to close up (probably for the best since i had an early flight back the next morning).
In any case, memories I will never forget and an awesome place to come have a drink or two. If you are visiting Barcelona, PLEASE come check this place out, it is one of the best...

I would even go as far as to say it’s one of my favourite bars in the world. The reason for this sweeping declaration, I believe, is the unique, special ambience. They seem to have mastered it to a degree that’s unequalled by other places I’ve been across the world. It has a smooth, seductive charm that is very unique yet subtle and effortless, which takes you back in time the minute you step inside and walk down the steps. It’s dark but punctuated with gorgeous ambient lighting. Filled with old, worn, antique furniture and eclectic art on the walls. They play music that has a chilled, soulful sound at a volume that you could describe as slight sultry.
Sitting in this place sipping a cocktail will make you feel genuinely decedent, like you’re in 1930s classy movie scene.
And the cocktails are crafted to perfection. Many classics in the menu, along with their...
Read moreQuite a disappointing experience. Initially, the place seems intriguing: old, a bit worn-out, vintage interior, promisingly full seating. But once you've waited in line and sat down, you realize the tables are sticky, and it's quite dirty around. A waiter approaches, not to answer questions or take your order, but to tell you that you'll need to wait a few minutes. Okay, not a big deal – you see everyone's busy. Finally, they find time for you, and it turns out the cocktail selection is limited to the menu, and they won't even make cocktails from the IBA list. No problem, you order from what's available, but you're served a poorly mixed cocktail with leftover ice that you have to chew and Monin syrups as well. How would you even react to this? I'd understand if custom (based on the guest's instructions) cocktails turned out poorly, but here, the menu cocktails are made so carelessly. Worst bar experience...
