Worst meal in Spain, but several points of value here.
The staff seemed to have tried, but by a combination of inattentiveness, and lack of cleanliness, failed to live up to expectations of the many venues around this.
First, it took longer than 10 minutes after sitting down to get any attention, while other large groups had dedicated waiters making drinks for them at their tables. It finally took the owner(?) asking if we got our drinks to get things moving. We were aware that service in Europe is on a different pace, but the other tables getting attention (and olives) was something that just didn't apply to us.
We had hoped it was a matter of understaffing, busy tourist times, or just bad luck, and like many places, sought to give the benefit of the doubt. Alas, the situation declined from there. We had to again seek the owners(?) attention to order food;. He must have noticed that we were waiting a while. We ordered shrimp, meatballs, patatas bravas, tomato bread, and a green salad.
The green salad never arrived. Fortunately, we were not charged for it (more on that later). The shrimp had none of the chili or aioli advertised and were plain. The meatballs had a hair on them (see picture), and we questioned whether they were fully cooked (see picture). The patatas bravas were ok, the tomato bread was not like it showed on the menu (soggy, wide bread with tomato jam), but not horribly worse than what we had elsewhere. The red wine was good, and worth the price.
Finally, we got a bill that wasn't accurate, listing calamari, no green salad (yay), no meatballs (?), and fewer drinks than we ordered (um, yay?)
Honestly, you have so many other incredible options in Barcelona, why use your time here? It masquerades as a tourist trap for backpackers.
My partner also took issue with the staff wearing masks beneath their noses and chins. I get that in a pandemic, it sucks to wear masks, but it signals a lack of attentiveness to cleanliness (see...
Read moreSmall bar with a few beers on tap. Staff are unattentive which is a let down. Didn't feel very clean either.. sticky tables!
We stopped here for a beer on a Saturday afternoon after walking around the city. We were not greeted upon entering and then I was ignored at the bar so we decided to grab a table on the terrace outside instead. We were quickly moved back inside as apparently the terrace is for food only...
After going back inside we sat at a table near the bar but moved to another table when we noticed our arms sticking to that table. I went back to the bar again to try and order but the barman was so focused on something else that he didn't even know I was there. We did eventually get our beer after standing around the bar for a little bit waiting for the barman to notice that I was waiting to order.
When trying to pay my bill I asked the female the waitress. She handed me my bill at the bar and rather than waiting for me to give her my card, she went back to cleaning the coffee cups and talking to her friend at the bar. After a minute or so of me standing there with my card in my hand she seemed to realise I was standing there patiently waiting to pay my bill, and then took payment.
There is nothing redeeming about the decor and vibe of the place either to make it worth visiting.
Disappointing experience overall....
Read moreHad the cooking experience where surprise ! No cooking was done by anyone other than the chef. We had Phillippe whom seemed charismatic but once we explored the market for 50 minutes, we noticed he was harder to understand, slurring his words, took off his glasses, and at one point wiped the sweat off his head w his hand, didn't wash his hands and proceeded to use those same hands to wipe out vegetables out of a salad bowl into the paella. At this point we suspected he could be drunk and the experience took just over 5 hours. Once we finally ate the paella was burnt when it should be caramelized. Phillippe proceeded to ensure us this was the way that Catalans make it and that other restaurants will either have a thicker layer of burnt rice, OR it's premade and served. Our group was 20 people, and noone left satisfied with the food, or experience. It was made worse when Phillippe would be sarcastic saying 'I guess it's burnt, don't worry about tips'. Out of the entire week we spent in Barcelona this was unfortunately the worst experience. Definitely not worth the money spent. Emails were exchanged when photos and info were sent to organizers and they immediately denied any...
