Arrived from Seville close to midnight and chance on a tapa place close to my hotel, the cerveceria la cruz de malta still open with a nice side walk tables. Service was helpful given some language barrier. Started w/ courtesy platito of crustry bread with spanish potato omelette dressed with aoili, then ordered fried calamare andalusian style-disappointingly just a plate of litely battered and salted squid rings with a quarter lemon slice but no dips-, bowl of salmorejo-chilled tomato soup originally cordoban topped with bits of jamon serrano and boiled egg-delicious and satisfyingly appropriate for a warm evening, tasty ham croquettes-crunchy on the outside and creamy inside with hints of jamon taste- and finally a slice of tortilla-spanish potato omelette. Read moreThis restaurant wasn't bad... but really you can eat much better in Madrid for the money. To give you the idea, the ensaladilla rusa is €9 (it's probably €2 or €3 euros if you walk a few blocks out of the main tourist area). Read moreOn our maiden trip to Spain, our very first meal was at this charming restaurant. The restaurant was conveniently located in the heart of the city, just a short walk from our Airbnb. We indulged in patatas bravas, salmon on bread (the name escapes me), and calamari, all paired with refreshing sangria and beer. It was so delicious that we forgot to take pictures until it was too late! Our waiter was incredibly friendly and offered great recommendations. We ended up following one of his suggestion and visited El Son on our 4th and last night, where we had a fantastic time at the salsa bar, even though we don’t know how to salsa! :) . Do visit this restaurant. My recommendation would be to stick to a...
