we finally went, with much excitement! our waiter was cool, but the tone from the rest of the staff oscillated between inexplicably aggressive and joyful, without any apparent motivation. spectacular burrata salad, perfect oysters, and wonderful scallops, and correctly done whitefish. brilliantly concieved gourmet paella with oxtail and boletus mushrooms - terribly executed: the excessive oversalting almost made it inedible and a badly conceived and badly executed fideua, that paired octopus with mushrooms for some reason instead of salmorreta or sofrito. the result just didn't work. it was simultaneously flavourless and somewhat revolting at the same time. at least with the oxtail boletus paella we knew what we were getting: there was no mention on the menu that mushrooms would feature in this octopus dish. i don't normally complain about prices at restaurants, because the prices are published on the menu when you order. but i am happy to complain here about the price-quality or price-value relationship. for two rice dishes for four people to be so disappointing - at a restaurant that specializes in them! - and also cost so very many euros, well, it is a great pity
i wanted to love atrapallada. sadly, the inconsistency from the kitchen disappointed us.
PS i would like to scream at the other reviewers that being listed in the Michelin Guide (similar to being listed in TripAdvisor) is very different from having a Michelin star - something Atrapallada is surely aware of, but deliberately playing with the ambiguity of, so as to attract more attention. Michelin has three different categories: restaurants with stars are the best. restaurants marked "bib" don't qualify for a star, but are good value for money. recommended restaurants, like Atrapallada are below both of these. It just means they use quality ingredients, but need to improve before being promoted to one of the other categories. This assessment for Atrapallada is...
Read moreWe visited Atrapallada as a party of four with a reservation for quarter past the hour. We arrived about 18 minutes early and, since our table wasn’t ready, we were suggested to sit at the bar and order drinks while we waited (not complimentary). Our table was ready in a timely manner, and we were seated near a window. However, the placement was a bit awkward—tucked into a corner of the room—so we couldn’t actually enjoy the window view and also felt somewhat out of sight from our server.
The dining room itself was pleasant—clean, comfortable, with a nice atmosphere. We ordered paella along with two other entrées, and while the food was good, it didn’t rise above expectations. Wooden chairs were starting to get uncomfortable at the two hour mark given they did not have cushions. The bigger issue came with the service. Several requests had to be repeated: a bottle of water we ordered never arrived the first time, bread that was offered and accepted never appeared at all (even after we had nearly finished our meals), and a wine refill for one of our party only materialized after a reminder. These may seem like small lapses, but taken together they did affect the flow of the evening.
On the positive side, the restrooms near the entrance were clean and comfortably sized. The restaurant offers both indoor and outdoor dining—inside, the layout is split between a smaller area near the entrance and a larger space behind the bar. Outside, I noticed they use misting sprays to keep guests cool, which is a thoughtful touch for Madrid’s warmer days.
Overall, the prices felt reasonable, but I couldn’t help expecting a bit more from the service given the reputation and setting. Atrapallada delivers a decent meal in a pleasant environment, but sharper attention to service details would have made the experience far...
Read more(Evitar este lugar, caro con muy mal trato.) Horrible service. Avoid if you are looking for an upscale experience, as represented by the higher prices.
Food is okay, nothing special. The male toilet is terrible, there is no wall hiding the urinals from the main walkway, also the light randomly turns off and you find yourselves in darkness.
I am a local to the area and this is honestly the poorest experiences I have had at a restaurant of this price point in Madrid. They forgot to notify us that the dish I have ordered was no longer available. They also forgot to bring me a coffee I had ordered. This place is overstaffed by some very unprofessional waiters.
The dish I ordered had several hairs. It is likely that the dishes here are prepared elsewhere and finished in house, given the very large menu.
