Taberna Tirso de Molina — Restaurant in Madrid

I am extremely disappointed by the way things were communicated at this restaurant. As a fellow tourist visiting Spain, I was eager to try the paella at the restaurant so I went in after seeing the cost on the menu outside was 17€. But funnily when I was given the menu, it never said that the minimum order was for 2 people and 17€ was per person. So instead of saying it’ll be 34€ up front, what they said to me was “two people can eat the paella it’s big, will be ready in 15 minutes” they didn’t say anything about charging me 34€ for the meal for one person. The food also took 35 minutes And when I asked them 10 minutes later, they said it’ll take 30 minutes. Again… I was in a rush and would not have ordered it, if it was going to take long. For some reason the water and a tax was also charged for 5.10€… which most restaurants had only charged me around 2€ max for a water.

I feel scammed and ripped off due to being a tourist and being taken advantage of in a foreign land has somewhat sullied my perception of Spanish people will treat foreigners.

Personally do not recommend this restaurant. The appearance and ambiance of the restaurant is easy to fool people into visiting but there are much better places where money...

The gazpacho was really good. The wine selection is good and cheap. The atmosphere is very beautiful and worthy of many photos.

The langostas de ajillo were terrribleeee. They are frozen, tiny, and have no flavor. It was like when you go to the grocery store and buy frozen shrimp and cook it at home, but like worse. I was really disappointed, since this is a tapa in the heart of Madrid.

A young lady server (probably 17-18 years old) behind the bar with curly hair kept ignoring me even though I was right infront of her and she looked right at me, made a face, and walked away. I politely kept asking for the bill and she made eye contact with me several times and walked away.

Where do we even start? Got food poisoning from what we assume was the cuttlefish. Waitstaff were rude, inhospitable, and we got the vibe that they did not want us there. Food itself was bland and unimpressive for the price. I can cook that myself at home. We said we were not ordering any drinks (including water) after being asked multiple times. The staff brought water to the table anyways we had to tell them AGAIN that we did not order any. We just got the vibe they were trying to scam us.

As mentioned already, we got food poisoning and were violently ill for the next 24hrs starting 6hrs post-meal. Not totally convinced they didn’t deliberately do something to our food.
