My boyfriend and I found this restaurant by accident walking down the street the 20th of August. Place designed with taste, cozy and lovely ambience. The team found a table immediately and we haven't been waiting even a second. Interesting dishes names, flavor combinations. First impression was wonderful. Service in general was good, however waiting time was too long. It took a while to bring a bread , later also olive oil. Waiting time of the dishes itself was way too long. For starter we ordered red prawn carpaccio, burrata cream, marinated egg yolk and black summer truffle. Instead we've been brought Parmigiana of aubergine, tomato sause and Mallorca cheese. We've commented immediately about possible mistake and Aleksandra was very polite to fix the problem. Wrong dish was left to us on the house. Which we found appropriate. We've noticed the portion size. It was small, like you normally get in very fine dining places. As we have never been to Pomelia before, it seemed like a fine dining place and we were full of expectations. After a while we were served prawn carpaccio. We were surprised because prawns were chopped as for tartar dish. Carpaccio is normally thin sliced pieces. However taste of the fresh prawns was very good. Then we waited quite a long time for main courses which were Sea Bass Trilogy: Tartar (was served without dressing, even salt, was just a plain taste of the raw fish), Acqua Pazza piece was undercooked, basically raw, Grill was ok. Another dish - skewer of grilled octopus was not great: octopus was chewy. Not good experience. Lots of expectations because idea and concept are great. We noticed, that whoever designed the menu and ingredients was up to create something great and interesting. However performance wasn't good. Probably the cook that night was different or in stress being alone at the kitchen. Anyway something went wrong. We told service guy about our experience and agreed to pay only for wine and "prawn carpaccio ", that was basically tartar. What surprised us it's neither chef, neither manager or owner (that was in the restaurant that evening), haven't tried to talk to us and figure out what is wrong. The biggest mistake here is that service team must listen to complaints about dishes quality, which must be kitchen's matter of concern. If something was wrong at the kitchen, manager should have approached us. Prices for quality of food and quantity are not appropriate. We were disappointed. We wouldn't like to recommend you not to visit this place, because probably that evening wasn't easy for kitchen and restaurant itself and for us all went wrong. However, you might ask for dishes waiting time in advance, portion sizes, how kitchen serve "prawn carpaccio" and if octopus will be chewy. This review was written only in terms of improvement of the place from management side. Service team was polite and ready to help. Thank you Best regards, Adam (profession: Chef) and Kseniia (profession:...
Read moreThis was our first and definitely last visit, as Palma residents we are always looking for high quality new restaurants to try and so had high hopes of a wonderful meal given the good reviews other people have given to this restaurant.
Sadly our experience was totally opposite, in 5+ years living here we have only had one meal in Palma that was worse than this. How can this happen when a restaurant has many very good reviews. I don't understand how our experience can be so very different to others! Maybe the chef was sick the day we visited and a kitchen hand was running the show??
The portions here are all very, very small and the price is quite high. But that can be OK if the flavours, presentation and the quality are exceptional - sadly, this was not the case here. After some tiny and very forgettable starters we chose a very ordinary fish of the day and a terrible squid dish for mains. Both were truly dreadful, especially the tiny skewer of tasteless, chewy and dry octopus with a few tasteless chickpeas. I am an octopus lover and very often take it when it is on the menu - this was 100% the worst octopus dish I've tried. How can they serve this? How can they charge €30 for this? The rest of the food wasn't much better.
The staff were gracious in handling our dissatisfaction, not charging for the terrible octopus main. But we frankly don't care whether we paid for this dish or not, we still had a very disappointing evening and the truth remains that this restaurant is serving very overpriced and minuscule portions of not very tasty food. We definitely won't be going back and will do all we can to encourage our friends and neighbours here in Palma to avoid this place - ....so please everybody, save yourselves an expensive disappointment and do not believe all the...
