We holidayed for 5 weeks in La Paz and visited this restaurant around 5 times during our time here and even had a takeaway. Previous reviews which we read prior to our first visit were quite mixed ranging from very poor to very good. We went there for our first time not really knowing what to expect. Both myself and our guests for this and sunsequent visits were extremely impressed by both the quality and quantity of the food. The staff were friendly, knowledgable and able to tailor the spiciness of some of the dishes to our guests tastes. Some reviews on here commented on the prices. Compared to going to a quality restaurant back home, the prices are very comparable. If you want good food and excellent service this comes with a cost. There are plenty of other restaurants (And I use that term lightly) in La Paz where the prices and not that much less, but the food is straight out of a freezer and the staff are unattentive and somtimes blatently rude to their customers. I would highly recommend the Mother Of India to anyone...
Read moreI've eaten at Mother India twice and I'll definitely be back again, even if it does mean climbing the steps up to La Paz 🤣.
Their onion bhajis were superb on my first visit. But second time around, they were greasier and not as crispy. Poppadoms and chutneys were pretty standard.
The curries have good flavour, but even when we ordered our lamb Madras "vindaloo" hot, it lacked a bit of fire. Like most curry houses in Puerto, you have to pick your curry, protein and then heat level. The waiting staff will try to talk you out of it, if you go above medium.
Lamb methi was very earthy, an interesting contrast to a rich Madras, but not my favourite. I've also tried the dupiaza, which was really good.
The service has always been friendly and efficient and chupitos are always welcome 😊.
If you fancy a curry in Puerto, this place is unlikely to...
Read moreWe were staying in all inclusive during our time in Tenerife but on our last night we decided to try Mother India because the good reviews. (There is so many good reviews that this must not happen often?) However, we must be the unlucky ones as we were both very sick from a hour after finishing the meal. My partner ate chicken and was much worse than me who had a vegetarian option of paneer (kind of cheese). We were vomiting for 24 hours nearly straight after finishing the meal. Classic food poisoning symptoms.
As we are staying in a very busy hotel with 100+ people eating the same food as us in the buffet 3 meals a day and did not drink any alcohol this day - we can only assume that it was Mother India which made us so sick.
A reminder to be super careful when eating in quiet restaurants...
