Lambrusquería Conde Altea — Restaurant in Valencia

I would honestly think twice before ever going here. To be honest, the food was alright for the price. However, that is where the positivity ends. The waiter initially assigned to our table was very pushy from the get go to take the “surprise menu”. Without elaborating on the contents of said menu and it’s price that is. We’ve made it very clear that we would like to order from the menu. They then immediately put a basket of bread and some sausage on our table. Ah, great service, we thought. Little did we know. After eating our dinner and having a couple of drinks, we kindly asked for the bill. And asked for the bill. And waited. And asked for the bill again. And waited some more. And while the waiter acted like we just asked him for the first time, we’ve asked him again. And again, they agreed to bring us the bill, walked away, to return from the inside, to my surprise to another table, again without the bill. After which I made it very clear that I have asked for 5 times and have been waiting for over 15 minutes for the bill. So either I’d pay now, or I would be leaving. They seemed to understand now. It took them a couple more minutes to bring the bill. After asking to pay by card, they then brought another bill, claiming that the earlier one was incorrect. Which was partially correct: comparing the two, they indeed forgot to add two drinks to the earlier bill. However, on both bills the bread we did not asked for was on it. These kind of tricks just added to my annoyance. And when finally bringing the bill, it is incorrect? “Poof”, that was the sound of their tip vanishing, or turning in to unwanted bread. I just paid the bill to get the heck out of there, like I planned on 20 mins. earlier.

So to conclude: the food was alright, the service was beyond terrible. To have so little respect for me as a paying customer, is ridiculous. Acting like your memory has been reset for 5 times in a row and adding unwanted items to my bill, makes visiting this restaurant something I would not advise any sane person valuing service. Too bad, since the atmosphere is very inviting. My advise (probably unwanted, like the bread) to the owner: quit the trickery and educate your staff....

I’ve had great dining experiences here before and was excited to return. However, my most recent dining experience at Lambrusqueria Conde Altea left me feeling utterly dissatisfied and underwhelmed. Despite requesting a rare steak, what was delivered to my table was a disappointing medium-cooked slab. This unfortunate occurrence, combined with the restaurant's unsatisfactory response, has led me to leave this negative review.

From the moment I took my first bite, it became apparent that the steak was not prepared to my specifications. It lacked the desired texture, tenderness, and flavors that one expects from a properly cooked rare steak. Disappointed, I attempted to inform the server about the issue and assert my dissatisfaction. However, it took 30 minutes for the server to come by my table. Seeing as it was getting late, I no longer wanted a replacement.

While I appreciate that errors can occur, it's disheartening to encounter such a negative response. Instead of offering a sincere apology and a swift resolution, the staff's solution was to discount me a mere 1/3 of the steak. This showed a lack of concern for providing quality service and satisfaction to their patrons.

As a customer who takes the time to communicate my preferences, I expect a certain level of attention to detail. A simple acknowledgment of the error and a genuine effort to rectify the situation would have gone a long way. Unfortunately, this restaurant failed to meet these expectations.

In conclusion, my experience was a letdown. The failure to deliver a properly cooked rare steak and the lackadaisical response to my complaint were both major disappointments. It is my hope that this review serves as constructive feedback for the establishment, encouraging them to improve their attention to detail and customer service.
