The owner takes great pride in the quality of their dishes, ensuring that each guest experiences the true taste of Argentina. However, an area that might benefit from refinement is their service. Read moreMy four stars are for places where we were well satisfied with the quality, service and value. They represent locations we would recommend and would return to ourselves.
After attending a Christmas concert at the Palau de Música, we got a table for 4 after the show. Despite their plans to close at 12 for Christmas vacations, they accommodated us with a late sitting (10:30).
It was a short stroll from the music hall and the restaurant was almost full when we arrived.
We were quickly sat and well attended. Our server brought examples of the different cuts of meat for us to see. As it was late, we passed on the starters and went right to the main course.
It has been a challenge for me to understand the names of the different cuts of steaks here in Spain compared to North America. However the menu of this restaurant explains it somewhat. I had the Lomo Alto ( or high loin aka ribeye / strip loin) and my spouse had the Solo Mio (or tenderloin/ filet mignon). Lomo Bajo is sirloin and what you might call a New York strip loin is sometimes referred to here as Entrecot. Careful with this though as I’ve ordered things called entrecot that were some other cut.
Both steaks were cooked to “poco hecho” or little done = rare. A very important point for those coming from North America … if you normally order “rare”, then poco hecho might be a little too rare for you. Think “blue rare”. We’ve had visitors having to send the rare steaks back for a little more cooking.
Our steaks were wonderful! I’ve had great local steaks in the centre and north of Spain but Valencia has been a little more of a challenge. We were pleased to locate this place and would...
Read moreBook well in advance for this wonderful experience. You need to book early to avoid disappointment . . . And you will be disappointed if you miss it!! Wow! Table of 6 for set menu. We were met by our waiter who truly knew how to look after his guests. Take the advice of your waiter on how your steak should be cooked, they really do know what they're doing. The food arrived in a timely manner, each course was delicious, something for everyone. I loved the provolone cheese, husband loved the chorizo, the little chicken or beef pasties were tasty, bread and dips very moorish! Half a bottle of wine each, lovely smooth red, went down a treat. 4 fillet steaks and 2 rump steaks (all 300g each) all cooked to perfection, served with delicious roasted asparagus and carrots, chips and sliced baked potatoes. We offered each other a round of applause for finishing all the steak . . 2 out of 6 completed but to be fair everyone have it a good go! Complementary lemoncello digestive which you need after all that wonderful food, we all decided it was the perfect way to finish a meal. As it was dad's 80th birthday we took a cake and candles which were presented by the waiters and the whole restaurant burst into song . . . What a lovely memory for him. Highly recommended, excellent value and quality, perfect service and fabulous atmosphere, a visit here will make any special occasion even...
