An Odyssey of Flavors and Follies at Indian Garden.
Nestled at a quaint corner away from Valencia’s bustling heart, Indian Garden promised a dive into the rich tapestry of Indian cuisine. Yet, what unfolded was a saga that danced on the fine line between culinary exploration and theatrical comedy.
A Quirky Prelude: Our adventure began with a tableau vivant of a semi-prepared table, setting the stage for an evening where the unexpected became our dining companion. The plot thickened with the entrance of our waiter, a spirited soloist in the opera of urgency, whose performance in the art of table setting was as avant-garde as it was bewildering.
Culinary Crescendos and Diminuendos: Amid the whirlwind of service that could rival the chaos of a stormy sea, the naan bread emerged as an unexpected protagonist. Notably circular, it defied the traditional tear-shaped naan's rustic charm, sparking both curiosity and amusement. "How does one achieve such geometric perfection in a tandoor?" one might ponder. Was it a culinary marvel or a humorous nod to the evening's unfolding eccentricities? This perfectly round naan, while defying conventions, was surprisingly palatable, standing as a beacon of consistency in an otherwise unpredictable culinary landscape.
A Culinary Masquerade: While the dal tarkaa sang melodies of authentic flavors and the naan flaunted its circular defiance, the chicken korma and pilau rice played their roles with less conviction, leaving a trail of culinary enigmas in their wake. The saga of portion sizes further added to the narrative, whispering tales of minimalism perhaps too avant-garde for the hungry soul.
Epilogue: The Quest for the Bill: In a fitting finale to our dining escapade, summoning the bill became an adventure in itself, echoing the evening's theme of whimsical challenges and theatrical service.
Curtain Call: Indian Garden, in its unique enclave of Valencia, served not merely a meal but an experience—a blend of culinary ambition, service with a flair for the dramatic, and the mystery of the perfectly round naan. It stands as a testament to the evening—a symphony of flavors, follies, and the enduring question of culinary geometry.
Rating: Two Stars with a Twist (One for the dal tarkaa’s loyal rendition of flavor, another for the naan's circular curiosity, and a half star in the wings, contemplating the whimsical nature of our...
Read moreI am eating mainly plant based with very little animal product for health reasons. Most of their vegan plant offering is not really vegan as they put cream and butter so as vegan you have barely two or three choices of their menu. Besides most of their vegetarian options are either only veggie ( very few and low quality) or legumes. So as vegan you can’t have it all a complete meal with proteins and veggies as animal eaters and you spend the same money. I asked the waiter if it was possible to serves chickpeas apart and he wanted to charge me for just few chickpeas 8.5€!!! Additionally when I asked him which veggies were in Tikka Marsala, he couldn’t tell me and when the meal arrived, there were just carrots and little onion. They didn’t put the cream as I asked it but the sauce didn’t come out well without the cream. Basically I spent 20€ euros for carrots in tomato’s sauce, basmati rice and water. Luckily I was smart enough to ask the price for the chickpeas otherwise I would have spent 30 € for a very poor meal with ingredients that cost nothing. I highly do not recommend this restaurant for people who eat plant based but also people who don’t want to be fooled with overpriced cheap ingredients. I gave two instead of one because I admit they somehow tried to meet my needs but were...
Read moreOutstanding. I took a friend who had never tried Indian cuisine before, and she was nervous. I ordered her a mild dish (Dansak) and I had a spicier one (jalfrezi). Both were absolutely delicious. My jalfrezi was the best one I have ever had, I think. I had tried another Indian restaurant in VLC before, and it had been disappointing, and the sauces tasted like they had cornflour in them. No such issues in this establishment!
The only improvement I could recommend would be linen napkins rather than paper. But that's cosmetic. The food is what I went for, and the food is absolutely what I shall return for.
The staff are fluent in both English and Spanish. My friend spoke Spanish to them and I spoke a bit of both (sometimes switching mid-sentence in my confuddlement) and there were no communication issues at all for any of us.
The portions were generous and we didn't finish everything - even though we both ordered only a curry and rice.
EDIT During the pandemic, we have ordered delivery. Still the highest quality. I just ordered again, right now, in fact. And yes, I can and do make embarassing sounds whenever I tuck in. Seriously, this...
