I am not one who makes a habit of writing bad reviews (in fact, I have never poorly reviewed a company in my life), but my experience tonight at Zocalo was awful enough to push me to do so. I'll say that the food was tasty, and had we not dealt with such lousy customer service, this review would be positive.
My girlfriend and I each ordered our own respective dishes. I got a Smoky BBQ Quesadilla, while she got a BBQ Torta El Chavo. The Smoky BBQ Quesadilla was indicated as being spicy on the menu in the restaurant (with a chili pepper symbol), while the BBQ Torta El Chavo was not. However, the former was very mild, while the latter was far spicier. My girlfriend asked me to taste hers, and I was surprised by the kick. I enjoy spice, so I didn't find the dish overly spicy, but my girlfriend doesn't handle spice well. No problem, I thought. We'll just take the food to the front counter, explain the situation, and they'll rectify the issue.
This is where things got bad. When we explained the situation to the woman working the front counter, she asked us what the food was we'd ordered and then came around to look at the menu. She then briefly talked to the chef before coming back out to talk to us. She first told us that it's Mexican food and that all Mexican food is at least a little spicy. Ignoring the fact that she was patronizing me (I've had Mexican food before), I explained to her that my girlfriend's dish was much spicier than mine, while mine was the one designated spicy and hers wasn't. The chef came out, the two shared a few words in Swedish, and then the woman actually proceeded to tell me that my girlfriend's food wasn't spicy. I guess the line she'd fed me a moment earlier about all Mexican food being spicy wasn't true? Of course, there's no way she could have known whether it was spicy or not as she did not taste it—and believe me, I wanted to tell her to. My girlfriend and I didn't exactly enjoy being told that we didn't taste the very thing we tasted. The woman then told us that there was nothing she could do.
Whatever happened to the whole "customer is always right" mantra? I understand that people sometimes abuse that, but we were not making any absurd requests. We were not trying to con them into comping us a meal. There were two bites gone from the sandwich—one from my girlfriend and one mine. All we wanted was for the nearly-whole sandwich to be replaced with the same dish without the spiciness as the menu hanging over the counter indicated.
I'd give one star, but I'm feeling generous because the food actually was tasty (even my girlfriend's). However, because of the horrible customer service, I could never recommend anyone eat here. There is no shortage of restaurants—fast food, casual, or fine—in the area, and as such, there is no reason to subject oneself to mistreatment by the people who run this...
Read moreWe arrived around 2h before the closing time. We weren't allowed to sit in the inner section, saying "It's closed". Well, not everyone likes to sit on wooden seats without back support, some prefer sofa-like seating. I agree that Mexican food shouldn't be evaluated based on vegetarian versions of the dishes but I have had 'veg Mexican' food earlier at several other places and it tasted good. Based on that, I ordered BBQ BOMBERO TACO which turned out to be an utter disappointment - the ingredients didn't go well together, something (probably, the Mexican slaw) had turned into/caused other greens a flow of sour liquid that made the whole taco bunch soggy. Except the veggie soya chunks, I found all the other ingredients unimpressive. The tortillas weren't fresh for sure. My friend had ordered FOOD TRUCK TACO and was equally disappointed. To make up for the lost taste, we ordered Nachos with guacamole, which was unimpressive. While I don't expect much from non-alcoholic, aerated drinks, the Jarritos were unimpressive, should have opted for some regular, carbonated beverage. At least for vegetarians, this...
Read moreAttention! The menu and service are faulty. Went there the other night with nine of my best friends to enjoy margaritas, and margaritas only. We arrived 35 minutes before closing time and the “waitress“ informed us that they close in 30 minutes. Great and welcoming policy - Not!
I asked to order a variety of margaritas according to their on line marketing. The waitress replied - we only sell one type here, the margarita classic. I order ten and she starts to poor margaritas from a Slush Puppy dispenser, mixed with “tequila” ready to drink - OMG!
I pay 95 kr each though it is stated 85 kr on the web page. I ask why? - Oh no, the web page is out of date, the waitress behind the counter replied and added “ do you want...
