hotel brasserie au violon — Restaurant in Basel

We had a fantastic vacation staying at this warm and welcoming and historic hotel located in the center of Basel. The hotel has a fabulous restaurant where we enjoyed breakfasts as well as a wonderful dinner on thrir outside patio. Mary, the reception manager of the Brasserie au Violon, went out of her way to ensure that we had the most comfortable and quiet rooms. When we made our reservation, we opted for a very large room overlooking the square, however, when we arrived, Basel was the location of the Eurovision Song Contest and Mary was worried that with the music coming from the festivities, we wouldn’t be able to sleep. Mary urged us to consider taking a less expensive room that faced the other side of the hotel! She proceeded to give us discounts on our breakfasts so that we would be compensated for our less expensive room! Our room was indeed, quiet! The hotel staff took excellent care of making our beds and we absolutely loved staying at this magnificent hotel!||And as it happened, on our last evening at the hotel, The Swiss won a soccer tournament and there was a tremendous celebration with thousands of people singing and celebrating. Mary encouraged and invited us to go to the top floor of the hotel to one of those larger rooms overlooking the festivities, so we could have a fantastic view of the celebration! It pains me to leave this review because majority of the staff at this fantastic hotel are lovely. Unfortunately, I encountered the worst amongst the lot on my last night and morning, one being the manager! I wish I would’ve left a day earlier as they have definitely left a stain on an otherwise beautiful trip. ||||First my partner was treated very rudely by the hotel manager while he was waiting for me to return. Then the next morning at checkout I was asked if ‘somebody’ was staying with me. You mean my boyfriend? I asked. Do you always refer to peoples’s partners as ‘somebody’? For instance is this how you referred to my colleague who also flew in his wife?|||| When i asked if this was the same question my colleague was asked when he checked out the staff got defensive and refused to answer. One woman even rolled her eyes. Wow! ||||This may explain their behaviour towards him the night before. I don’t mind paying any extra amounts. This is not the issue. What i mind is fairness. If the straight couple was not asked these intrusive questions, then queer couples should not be asked them either. There are plenty of beautiful hotels in Basel. When I return this one won’t be amongst my choices. ||||I travel a lot and work hard for my money. I do not demand special treatment, only general respect. Happy to spend my money elsewhere...

J'ai récemment eu l'occasion de dîner au restaurant Au Violon, situé dans un cadre charmant au cœur de la ville. L'attrait principal de cet établissement est sa superbe terrasse, qui offre une atmosphère exceptionnelle pour une soirée agréable. Ma visite a été un mélange de surprises et de satisfactions, et je suis ravi de partager mon expérience.

L'ambiance sur la terrasse était simplement magnifique. Des lumières tamisées, des fleurs en abondance et une vue sur la vieille ville ont créé une atmosphère romantique et relaxante. Le service était attentif et professionnel dès notre arrivée, ce qui a immédiatement renforcé notre impression positive du restaurant.

Pour commencer notre repas, nous avons opté pour la salade de chèvre. Malheureusement, cette première expérience n'a pas tout à fait répondu à nos attentes. Bien que les ingrédients étaient frais et de qualité, la salade manquait d'un élément de surprise. Elle était un peu décevante et aurait pu bénéficier d'un assaisonnement plus audacieux ou d'un ingrédient inattendu pour la rendre plus mémorable.

Cependant, notre déception initiale a été rapidement oubliée lorsque nous avons reçu notre plat principal, l'araignée de veau. C'était un véritable délice gastronomique. La viande était tendre, juteuse et parfaitement cuite, et elle était accompagnée d'une sauce exquise qui rehaussait parfaitement les saveurs. Les légumes de saison qui l'accompagnaient étaient également un régal pour les papilles.

Pour accompagner notre repas, nous avons choisi un vin recommandé par le sommelier, qui s'est révélé être un excellent choix. La sélection de vins d'Au Violon est impressionnante et complète parfaitement le menu.

En dessert, nous avons partagé une crème brûlée qui était tout simplement divine. La croûte caramélisée était parfaitement craquante, tandis que la crème était onctueuse et parfumée à la vanille.

Dans l'ensemble, malgré une salade de chèvre un peu décevante en début de repas, notre expérience au restaurant Au Violon a été des plus agréables. La qualité exceptionnelle de l'araignée de veau et des autres plats principaux, associée à l'ambiance romantique de la terrasse, en font un choix idéal pour une soirée spéciale. Le service attentionné et le vaste choix de vins complètent cette expérience culinaire mémorable.
