Namamen close to Bankverein in Basel has a clean and minimalistic interior. In typical Japanese style there are several places directly at the counter in front of the open kitchen. Besides, there is a good amount of tables in the room to eat alone, for 2 or in smaller groups.
Starter & Main: I started with the Veggie Gyoza that comes in 5, deep fried, fresh and very delicious. As a main I chose the Togarashi soup (spicy Miso soup) as a base and the Chicken Ramen. That comes with Ramen Noodles, thin chicken slices, carrots, spring onions, Menma (bamboo strips), spinach leaves and an egg half. I have added on top an additional soy marinated egg half. The soup had a good spice level, the chicken slices were very juicy and the other ingredients added up well in freshness and taste. I would rate it a good and solid Ramen. If there would be something to complain, I could say, they could add a full egg (2 halves) already as a standard, but that's a minor thing and does not decrease the overall good quality. To add, they also have Udon or Soba as well as Japanese Tapas as alternative to Ramen.
Dessert: I chose the "Sweet Fusion" that comes with one Mochi (different tastes of the day can be chosen, I took the echolocate-coconut flavor) and a Dorayaki, a warm Japanese pancake with Azuki beans. That dessert is a perfect finish to combine a cold and warm dessert. Once again, lovely taste, high quality food.
To sum up, a great place to go for a relaxed atmosphere with great...
Read moreAfter trying this Ramen, I am asking myself what the people who gave a positive review of this are used to eating. Anyway, Sometimes I just need to remind myself that there’s no accounting for taste. Let's start the description of this delightful experience, the noodles are just average, not bad, and not good. Possibly the most neutral element in the Ramen. For the soup, in this case, Miso, it could be simply used to remove the ice from your front door in the winter, and for sure it will be enough sault for all the winter. The vegetables, ok it is ok, but with all the disgrace around they look just sad. What about the Mr. Egg? Well, at least you could give me a full egg and not just a lonely half, this could be an easy positive point. To finish, the Chashu the "Pièce de résistance", was easily the most horrible element of the Ramen. Please, allow me to ask you, Have you ever eaten pork meat (any meat) that was reheated? If you do, you know what I am talking about. Doing that at home is one thing, pay for reheated food is another. Plus, you can try to give some color to the meat, it looks like a grey limestone. In summary, I would not recommend it, unless you have what I would call a "weird taste", or you just want to get a reason to write a...
Read moreWe didn't like it at all, I gotta admit Japanese food is really good but they way they prepared it did not please me and my friend at all. The sushi we ordered (salmon roll) looked horrible. It seemed like it was mashed salmon??? And just some avocado stuffed in it, the fact that it wasnt freshly made, angered me. I obviously disliked it. They got my friends' order wrong (miso instead of soy sauce) and then the glasses we drank of weren't even clean. It was very uncomfortable for me to eat with all my bags and luggage next to me, just because there aren't any places available. IT was very crowded, by that I mean the tables were too close to each other and there wasn't really any privacy, but again if you go eat in a restaurant what kind of privacy are yku expecting. Anyway the food is extremely overpriced, we ended up spending around 100 CHF just for two people. My friend ended up leaving most of her food untouched and I just ate it because I was hungry as hell. I dont recommend going there. It's your decision if you want to go eat...
