The cafe is located in Old town beside the Banc de la treille. It also looked like they have outdoor dining areas by it to see the views. Keep an eye out for the sign by the entrance on the walls of the old building. There was plenty of seating inside but I did book beforehand as I only had a night there. Service was really good, water kept topped up and not rushing. The place did looks quite fancy but it was also very relaxed so it was easy to just sit there and enjoy the meal. Had a beer and that came with a fairly large bowl full of nuts and other salty treats. Nice to snack while perusing through the menu. I started with the quail pie and that was amazing. The pastry was crisp and flakey and the filling was rich and tasty. One of the best pies I've had, I would probably come back just for this. The sauce was just so flavourful. It came with a salad and bread, which was nice to dip into the sauce. For the main, I went with the civet coq au vin. The vegetables were all seasoned and cooked beautifully. I found the meat to be too dry. The sauce was delicious but quite lacking so that was disappointing. Think that if there was more sauce then the meat wouldn't have been as dry and been more enjoyable. The pistachio religious for dessert was nice. They even came and poured the chocolate "habit" over the pastry. A nice crispness to the pastry and the filling was tasty, as was the ice cream. It was an enjoyable experience overall and not a bad choice if you do only have one...
Read moreI have been to this restaurant several times before with no issues. But today, I came with Senior government officials and had a terrible experience. We made a reservation online, then called back to add more people. When we were driving to the restaurant, we called again to confirm and they confirmed our reservation. When we arrived at the restaurant, the younger waiter was about to seat our group, when an older waiter stopped him and shock his head 'no'. He then came over and asked if we had a reservation, we replied and gave the name and time. All of a sudden, he no longer had a table for us, and our reservation had apparently been cancelled. He went on and on about not having space to seat us even though we were looking at 2 separate empty tables for 8 people. He was adamant about not seating us and kept claiming that it was cancelled, even though we said that we never cancelled it, but infact called and confirm it only moments earlier. Should I mention that we are all black. ... I'm extremely disappointed with Cafe Papon and will never support a restaurant that is kind to me when I show up with no reservation and white friends, but is terrible to me when I book a reservation and come with black Government Officials visiting Geneva for a Conference. These types of experiences are a huge turn off from eating at this restaurant again or recommending it. I am a diplomat and often recommend restaurants for visiting delegations to try. I will never be supporting Cafe...
