Had a booking set for 4/17 at Hotel Daniela in Zermatt through Southwest Airlines Hotels for a vacation from the U.S. Due to extreme weather in and outside of Zermatt (which closed highways, railways, all other transportation and loss of power in Zermatt), we were unable to make it to our reservation on 4/17. We attempted to cancel our hotel via phone 4 times to no avail of getting ahold of front desk - which I then called Hotel Julen (partner hotel) which practically told me to kick rocks in attempt to get ahold of anyone at Hotel Daniela. I would then email the Hotel Daniela which 2 days later I would get a response that my cancellation request was denied and Hotel Daniela would not be issuing any refund or any other resolve at this time. Better yet, they told me to contact my travel insurance company and work with them AND if I wanted a letter of cancellation / weather report that I needed to contact the Municipality of Zermatt which may be needed by my travel insurance. This is a classic “take the money and run” by Hotel Daniela and I would certainly never do business with this hotel or chain of hotels they’re partnered with in Zermatt. Not only did we lose on the cost of this reservation but we had to make another hotel reservation outside of Zermatt which costed additional. Money aside, this is not how you handle or conduct business as an alleged...

Read morePros:
-Hotel rooms are nice and clean.
Location is only a few minutes from downtown zermatt and the train station which is also a huge plus.
Cons:
It took us almost an hour to check in. The front desk staff seems to like to talk a bunch while also being a bit condescending which was sort of weird ..
The shuttle service took almost 3x as long as just walking from the train station as they decided to go and try to pick up more people. This was a bit irritating as they told us it would only be a couple minutes and we were in a bit of a rush. The driver pretty much just shrugged when we asked him about this.
The whole hotel stinked of some nasty artificial fragrance. It was like walking into a bad candle store everytime we came back to the hotel.
While the breakfast was free , it was all cold. (Cold pancakes, cold sausage ,cold bacon etc) we arrived right at the beginning of breakfast so not sure what the deal was here.
-there are 3 different plug styles throughout the room. This was the only place out of the 7 different places we had stayed in Switzerland that only had a couple j type plugs. Not sure if this is a common occurrence in zermatt or if it was just this hotel but it was annoying not being able to charge our phones next to the bed...
