Metropol — Restaurant in Zurich

Traveling solo so after waking to a crowded couples place and a closed place I was glad to find a place with a bar at so I didn't have to occupy a table and get rushed. Spotted some good fish meals on the menu outside the restaurant. Thought magic was about to happen. Stood by the stand for 3 min. No one behind the bar would even make eye contact. Finally got the attention of a waitress and asked if I could take a seat at the bar (empty but restaurant full). She said sure and I sat myself. No menu or place setting given. After a few minutes of being ignored I reached and grabbed what I thought was a bar menu. Didn't have any of the stuff I saw outside. Had some wines I was interested in. Glad I didn't order one before I left. Asked the bartender who clearly didn't want to talk to me if I could have a full food menu. His response is "that is the food menu". We use to go to this restaurant several times a year to celebrate various occasions. We enjoyed the food and the service was good. However, the latest time we went back we saw that the prices had been significantly increased for most items. In addition, they seem to be cutting corners and reducing portions sizes. As an example I usually order the steak with lobster tail. You would usually get a full lobster tail and a decent amount of steak. This time however I received a very small portion of steak and half a lobster tail. It made me feel like I had been ripped off. I'm fine to pay for good food, but I expect a decent portion. Unfortunately I think that the restaurant price is too excessive for the quality and quantity of the food received. It is very disappointing as we really enjoyed this restaurant, but we will now not...

We had the Japanese taster menu - which was great.

Service and booking on point - although I had to call twice to confirm the booking (this should be 1 call - no need for reminders;))

Interior is a little outdated on the dinner side, also the lights go on and off sporadically?! Worth to have a quick check/ refurb there.

Service on the day was on point - quick service with good amount of time between dishes, well done there.

Prices on the higher end - likely due to prime location. Though nothing in the extraordinary level for Zurich.

Only mispriced item are Gin & Tonics. 22.50 for a G&T, vs 10 on a Prosecco seem to me that this drink is mispriced. Nevertheless the g&t was served strong so that’s a positive.

Overall a good experience and they can handle larger groups without problems. 4.2/5,...
