Rheinfelder Bierhalle — Restaurant in Zurich

I've been here 3 times, I travel a lot and I love places where you can get local food at a decent and reasonable price. The restaurant is very modest, no decorations at all but made out of wood so you feel quite cozy. The menu isn't big but there is a good variety to choose from. The location is very good, very central and easy to get to. It's located in a very beautiful street in the old town. The staff is extremely rude and as of the 12/11/2016, my 3d experience at the restaurant (first 2 times I was alone on a week day so it was a relaxed enviroment) on a saturday, having only 3 waiters serving and perhaps 1 cook you could notice the stress they had.

I was seated at a table by one waiter and right after settling in, another waiter came over and slammed a plate on the table shouting RESERVED! We tried to tell the waiter that we just got seated by her colleague but she was slamming the plate and shouting the same words over and over again. I told her she was being rude and that that was too much, trying to catch the attention of the other customers. She at that point elbowed my friend squeezing by to fix the table again and gestured us to leave saying "leave leave".

I loved the place before, it was a 3 stars for me almost 4. But after this experience and getting all of my work colleagues offended I just have to assign it a 1 star.

Pity because I really liked the place. Such a big mistake to have such rude waiters. The 2 ladies I'm talking about.

No english in the menus and no english at all with the waiters.

We went there around 7.30pm there are a lot of people dinning already and we ask the waiter for a table and he told us to sit at table for 2 person that is not even cleaned up yet and he grabbed a chair from the table next to it and throw it in front of the table I don’t know was he angry or something, but we have 3 person so we asked him for a bigger table and he told us to go to another restaurant, so we asked him again for a table and he take us in to the inside of the restaurant and set us in the corner, then he just left us sitting in the corner for 30minutes at least there are no menu on the table and he didn’t bring it to us as well. We thought maybe he is busy to serving the dished to other table but he wasn’t, we tried at least 5 times to ask the menu from him and wave at him to attract his attention so he can bring us the menu but HE SAW US AND HEARD US EVERY SINGLE TIME, he just ignored us! Then he brings the menu to two people that came in to the restaurant after us and he took the order from them he just skipped and ignored us!Then a lady waiter saw us and brings us the menu and told us the bald waiter that bring us in here should take care of us and take the order for us, also she took the order from us. The food is delicious and it served to us very fast. Also the old bald waiter ignored other people as well not only us other customers try to communicate with him but he just walked away. We are a family of 6, so we asked if they had a table for 6. The waiter pointed us to the long in the middle of the room. Several times we tried to get one of the waiter's attention to order. We watched the waiter take the order of two other groups who had sat down after us. My husband was ready to leave, but I insisted that they would take our order soon. At this time a woman came in and asked if they had a table for 15. The woman who had been cooking came to our table and asked if we would move for this large group. I explained to her that we really wanted to order, but afterwards we would be willing to move to another table. She was annoyed with this response, but got a pad of paper and returned. She told us that she would take our order. We began to order our drinks. She rudely told us that she was not going to take our drink order, but only our food. I tried to explain that we had not ordered anything yet, and that we would give her our food order along with our food. However, she utterly refused to let us order and drinks telling us again that we could only order food from her. She was extremely rude. Worst service I have ever experienced at a restaurant.
