Nice selection of draft beer, but it costs around 300 ($10usd) for a single "normal size" cup for around 200 for what's ACTUALLY an insultingly-small "baby cup", when the same beer is sold at Carefor for 100 (for 2x the quantity of the baby cup that's 1/2 a bottle). [EDIT: Now sells for 80!] Then served semi cool (not cold) in a Luke-warm cup, as if you left your beer out of the fridge for a half hour. Stinginess on the price and warm beer will prevent me from returning.
Even as a beer connoisseur, I'd honestly say it tasted better from the bottle from Carefor. Throw it in the fridge and serve it to yourself in an icy mug for double the quantity and 1/4 the price (don't forget 200 was about only 1/2 a bottle in quantity). Pale Ales or stronger hop ales (eg, IPA) are served best cold for the balance of hops. The best Mikkeller beers are usually their hoppier ones. It's like they don't even drink their own beer.
Even the Togo beers in a bottle were up to 400 something.
As for food, I saw Gua Bao, but seems to be almost all fat from what I could gather in the pics. Which is strange since their target audience seems to be foreigners. Yet, if targeting foreigners, luke warm beer is an off choice, too. I don't think the owners really decided who their target...
Read moreA great bar with a large selection of beers on tap. Imports from all over the world if you can't find a drink here you in trouble. The staff are really nice and fun, you'll occasionally wait an age to be served when they are busy.
The hipster Mikkeller logos are everywhere, if you like that kind of thing, of course Instagram will love it.There is always a stream of merch on offer but they don't hard sell it.
The food is typical bar food, not great but not bad the beer is expensive but on par with other craft beer places in Taipei.
So why only 4 stars? I can't leave 4.5 but and recently they've stopped allowing you to taste test the beers, since Taihu et al can still manage it, this is so disappointing. Honestly it is inexcusable for any good taproom, it means having a beer here has now ended up an expensive beer lottery I hope they fix it soon.
That said its one of the better craft beer haunts its in an interesting area, definitely a great...
Read moreSo much potential ... The beer is great. The music is good. The ambiance downstairs could be very good.
Until they add seating to the bar downstairs this pub will never be a favourite of mine. They have a beautiful bar that could easily seat 20 people plus standing room, but has seating for 4 people. The bar is a feature. It's what you see from the street. A full happy bar is the best possible free advertising. But there's no one there because there isn't any seating.
It's a bit weird. You have to buy a beer at the bar and then carry it upstairs which is entirely separate from their staff and the main bar. It's like a beer takeout place within their own bar. The upstairs design is reminiscent of a grade school classroom.
Quite expensive. The rational from other reviewers that the beer is expensive because they import the beer is strange. The local Taiwan beer and the Hong Kong beer they sell are essentially the same price as the...
