Soon, it was time to finally try out Wu Lao Guo (无老锅), one of the best and most popular hotpot in Taiwan! The name Wu Lao, literally means “no aging” and Guo means “pot” – which loosely translates to the “anti-aging hotpot”. We have also read online that the they provide free-flow tofu and duck’s blood together with unlimited servings of its amazing broth – boiled with chicken bones, pork bones, onions, green onions, ginger, and garlic; along with some Chinese medicinal spices…
Another excellent recommendation by Cousin S and Cousin M again. We must say that after trying out Wu Lao Guo (无老锅), it is probably the best hotpot we’ve had – definitely trumps Haidilao. The reasons are because
Rich and Flavourful Broth. The Layer Tofu Hotpot (面包豆腐白汤锅) was so rich and flavourful! It was slightly salty but you can also add the lighter broth (yup, they have both thick and light broths!) to balance the taste if you want. But for our cousins table, it was rich, thick soup all the way! The broth also has some uniqueness to it. Not only does it have the deep aromas from hours of boiling of the chicken and pig bones, there’s also a layered flavour to it, which we suspect might has something to do with the herbs.
Free Flow of Tofu. There’s free flow of tofu skin! You have to immerse it into the broth to absorb the flavours but somehow the tofu skin came out a little herbly which tastes super healthy, knowing that tofu skin is loaded with protein and mild taste of the herbs.
Free Flow of Palette Cleanser. The last time that we had palette cleansers was at a fine dining restaurant known as T.U.N.G Dining in Hanoi. The version here at Wu Lao Guo had the peach tastes which Kate loves. A little sweet but Kate had 2nds and 3rds – excellent as a dessert towards the end.

Read moreWhat we liked: Tofu soup was really good — Clean and rich flavour that was very tasty. If you like the flavour of the collagen soup from HDL Singapore, this is similar without the collagen texture Free flow tofu and duck blood — you just need to request as and when you want more. The tofu is like a pressed tofu that is spongy instead of smooth and can suck up all the soup flavours! You can decline the duck blood if you don’t want it Tea and soup is refillable — the staff is attentive enough that they will check in on you regularly for refills
Things to note: Spoons are not given by default, but they will provide if you ask Condiments are quite bare bones — only 6-7 items given when we were there. I definitely miss HDL condiment counters There’s a charge per person for the soup (can’t remember how much) plus a NT$200 if you go for the double flavour option
Overall: Despite the limited condiments the food was still very enjoyable Tofu soup was really good, I wouldn’t try the spicy soup again (really tasted like the maggi curry soup like some others mentioned) If you like tofu, order less meat to start and enjoy the tofu (and duck blood) before deciding on more meat! We got the pork belly and shoulder, and it was enough for 3 adults and 1 senior (smaller appetite)
We’ll come back...

Overall service and environment is excellent.
We ordered twin-sided hotpot. One flaw for the spicy wulao hotpot is its taste like maggie curry ; and the refill of soup is refill in white broth thus it become more and more bland after several time of refill. But the unlimited refilling of tofu and duck blood. Tofu is super nice, it’s like layers of bean curd skin thus absorb the soup very well. Yet the duck blood is just thin big slices.
They provide refillable white rice and 4types of condiments. Taiwan short grain white rice is cook into perfect softness. Hope can have more choices in the condiments.
First time we saw “水蓮” ( white water snowflake) We’re glad we ordered it coz it’s match with hotpot very well. Crunchy texture and nice aroma. After check online found out it’s hold a special place in Taiwan cuisine. A freshwater veggie that uniquely in taiwan.
They serve cup of peach smoothie for each of the diner after meal, and it’s can ask for refill for one more time. Love it coz it...
