Kat’s Kitchen in Chiang Mai is a standout dining destination that offers an exceptional culinary experience. During my visit, I had the pleasure of trying several dishes, each of which exceeded my expectations.
The Tom Yum Pad Thai was a delightful fusion of classic Thai flavors with a tangy and spicy kick that perfectly balanced the sweet and savory elements. The noodles were cooked to perfection, absorbing the rich broth without becoming soggy. The balance of herbs and spices made each bite invigorating and satisfying.
Pork Laab Khao Soi was another highlight, featuring tender pork mingled with aromatic herbs and spices, served alongside creamy khao soi noodles. The combination created a harmonious blend of textures and flavors that was both comforting and exciting. The dish was well-seasoned, offering a depth of flavor that showcased the chef’s expertise.
The papaya salad was fresh and vibrant, with just the right amount of crunch and a refreshing tang that made it incredibly appetizing. The balance of sweet, sour, and spicy elements was masterfully achieved, making it a perfect accompaniment to the richer dishes.
Morning glory was cooked to perfection, maintaining its crispness while being lightly sautéed with garlic and chili. The dish was flavorful without being overpowering, highlighting the freshness of the vegetables.
Beyond the exceptional food, Kat’s Kitchen boasts a warm and inviting atmosphere. The staff were attentive and friendly, providing excellent service that made the dining experience even more enjoyable. The restaurant’s ambiance is both cozy and stylish, making it a great spot for both casual meals and special occasions.

Food was delicious. We had green curry chicken, pad Thai (mama version), seafood suki, and pad ga prow (pork). We took a gamble with the fried chicken in fish sauce, thinking it was chicken wings (our whole table thought the photo was wings), but it was little bite size chicken pieces. They were over fried, so we just set it aside. The rest of the food was super yummy.
The service is friendly and they speak pretty good English.
The restaurant got packed and the atmosphere was lively. We sat right by a fan, which helped (they had many fans going inside the restaurant). We like how the restaurant was tucked away a little on a side street and how homely it felt.
As an aside, I spotted a letter posted on the wall near us from 2024: it was from the management to customers, giving them a heads up that prices would have to increase in July 2024 due to cost of ingredients rising. It was apologetic in tone. I thought that was really transparent and says something about the restaurant.
Finally, just in case you have someone in your party interested in ordering the "green soda", my 11 yr old daughter thought it was too sweet, which, if a kid says something is too sweet, is definitely saying something.
Overall a fantastic restaurant. Highly recommended if you're nearby (up to a 10...
Read moreA local open-air restaurant with really really really good local food. When you open the menu, they have a spice chart from which you can choose your preferred spice level per dish.
We ordered the Khao Soi (spice level 3), Pad Kaprow Gai Basil chicken, and Tom Yum Goong Fried Rice (spice level 2). We like our food spicy, so the spice levels 2 and 3 weren't quite spicy. We asked for extra sliced red chili in fish oil on the side for that spice kick.
The Tom Yum Goong Fried Rice was THE BEST. I'd go back just for this. Not oily. Super tasty. Very well made. Spice level was just nice (level 2).
The Pad Kaprow Gai [Basil chicken] was tasty too, not at all oily like how you get it at the street night markets. Could have been spicier (we got the level 2). We got this without the rice. They have the option with rice.
The Khao Soi was a bit of a let down though. We weren't very wow-ed by the dish. For a meal that is common to Northern Thailand, we were quite surprised that it wasn't as great. Maybe it just wasn't to our liking (?)
The premises were clean. Service was FAST. The server understood English well so no issues there. It feels a bit run-down but really no complaints about the food....
