I was plagued with drink order disaster my first whole week in Thailand and this place was no exception. I tried three times to find something I wanted, that was in stock, and failed. I wasn't able to convince my server to tell me what there was left to choose from, that wasn't sugary softdrink (pop) or beer.
It was hard to find on Google maps because a plain old house in Nimman is the first hit under 'Lemontree'. Look up 'Shell service station' instead. It's across the road.
This is an expat restaurant, serving good, but relatively expensive authentic Thai.
I'm not American, so the certainty that comes from eating at food places that serve American food, or that other Americans have positively reviewed online - which is this whole strip of restaurants, really (Pern and Salsa Kitchen are next door), confuses and perplexes me.
As I understand it, big menus = big trouble, unmanageable complexity, a high likelihood of old, out of date, tinned, frozen and pre-cooked food, and that is how you get food poisoning, if Food Network isn't lying.
In any event, I'm a 'when in Rome' kind of person, not a 'I have this all the time when Im at home' kind of person. I'd rather eat at the food stalls at the shopping centre up the street for a quarter the price.
Orders for large tables are a challenge to say the least and not just here. Smoothie Blues, Cube 7, Kafevino. Same, same.
It's not a night-ender, or upsetting, unless you're that kind of customer, but it's up to you to intercept your food when it goes to the wrong end of the table here. It's up to you to remember what you ordered, because there will be mystery plates that no one claims, and orders that are missed. Food will come out in stages, bits of the table at a time, without any obvious reason or system.
If anyone wants to establish a hospitality training group, Chiang Mai may be a good place to set up!
There are two kinds of red curry on the menu, one traditional, one modern, which are not distinguishable on the English language version of the menu. One has veg, and looks like a picture post card, the other has no veg and came as a surprise to my companion, because it looks more like an Indian dish. It was still very edible by...
ย ย ย Read moreThis has always been a great little neighborhood restaurant. I rate it 5 stars for their service, food quality, great menu (including many vegetarian choices) and their reasonable prices. The ambiance isnโt great, but the restaurant is clean. There are several seating areas downstairs and upstairs, and an outside covered patio upstairs if you want to be outside. We visit here fairly frequently(and often order carry out using the Grab app) and have never been disappointed with our meals. The portions are really good, and the curries and other Thai dishes are very authentic. Be sure that if you want your food less spicy, to request that when you order. Their menu is extensive, and includes seafood, curries, noodle dishes, soups, and many other options. Itโs a restaurant where you know that they will have something on the menu for everyone. (I only wish that they would add Khao Soi to their menu!!) One of my favorite dishes from here is their deep fried morning glories with their special sweet and spicy sauce. Another favorite is their Panang curry, which is the absolute best. It is very popular with locals and tourists alike, and we will...
ย ย ย Read moreDuring my 4 week long stay in Thailand, I probably came here to eat at least once every other day on average. It's not the best restaurant in town, nor the cheapest. It's a simple neighborhood restaurant with very good local food for a more than fair price given that you the proper tables and chairs, and air conditioning.
There are dozens upon dozens of items on the menu to choose from, truly something for everyone. Don't get shocked by the first page with the recommendations (including several dishes made with frog or snails), the rest of the menu is mostly pork, chicken, shrimps, fish and such. And there are many vegetarian options as well!
Honestly, none of the dishes I ate here was the best of its kind I ever had, but neither was any ever in any way bad.
Don't hesitate to walk in even when the tables look full, the upper floor is actually larger and has both indoor and outdoor seating. The outdoor seating is in the back above the kitchen, so the street isn't bothersome.
Staff is very friendly, some with decent English, some with rather limited English but it's never...
