During a visit to an old friend staying at a nearby hotel, we decided to indulge in some Indian cuisine for dinner. Highway Curry Kata stood out as the perfect choice—conveniently located, highly rated on Google, and just a short five-minute walk away.

Upon arrival, we were welcomed into a charming and tastefully decorated restaurant that was buzzing with patrons from different backgrounds. With both alfresco and indoor seating options available, we chose to sit indoors, where the ambiance was warm, cozy, and adorned with beautiful Indian art and artifacts.

The menu offered a variety of Indian, Thai, and vegan options, but we stayed true to our plan and opted for Indian cuisine. Taking the restaurant’s recommendations, we started with Onion Bhaji, followed by the flavorful Chicken Tawa paired with Garlic Naan, and ended our meal with the classic Gulab Jamun for dessert. Every dish was an absolute delight—authentic, rich in flavor, and filled with the wonderful aroma of Indian spices. The Chicken Tawa, in particular, was a standout, featuring tender chicken in a creamy, well-balanced curry.

The service was just as impressive as the food. Shankar and his team made us feel incredibly welcome with their warmth and attentiveness, adding to the overall experience.

My husband and I ate at Highway Curry twice during our stay in Phuket it was that good.

The food was flavorful and comforting. Portion sizes are big, as well. We found ourselves with leftovers.

We ordered the garlic naan, butter naan, Chana masala, chicken tikka masala, chicken tawa, basmati rice, and fried yellow daal on the two occasions we visited. All the dishes were fresh, hot, and absolutely delicious.

The service was prompt, friendly, and professional. Compared to other restaurants in Phuket who had a slower or awkward pacing of the dishes, this restaurant got our food out in a reasonable time with good pacing.

To elaborate, another restaurant had about 10/15 minutes between dishes being done. You would have to wait for your rice even though you’d want it served with your main dish. Highway Curry did not do this—our naan would be served along side the main dishes.

One thing to note is the gentleman who works here would only address my husband despite both of us being at the table, asking how he found the meal and if he needed anything. I don’t think he meant anything mean by this but by our American standards, it felt a little off. We wrote it off as a cultural difference and would return here regardless.

Super tasty, authentic Indian food at a good price!

I love Highway Curry and will definitely be coming back more often. I became aware of this restaurant because they also offer completely vegan Indian dishes such as curries and salads. The restaurant doesn't look that special from the outside, which is why we initially tested other Indian restaurants. Now that we've been to Highway Curry, I can say that we liked it best here!

The selection of dishes ranges from various meat dishes and tandoori grill skewers to vegetarian and vegan dishes.

We had a vegan bean salad (super delicious) with a gobi paratha (also really good!) and a spinach and potato curry with rice. Everything tasted great and we were totally thrilled.

The staff are friendly and also provide reliable advice on the vegan dishes. I am vegan, which is why my husband and I only ordered vegan dishes to share. When my husband ordered an Indian ice cream for dessert, the waiter mentioned that it wasn't vegan. So he remembered that we had ordered vegan.
