Unfortunately, I can only give the Royal India Restaurant one star.
Even though this restaurant may seem authentic at first glance and has many positive reviews, I absolutely cannot agree with them.
First, I want to emphasize that you cannot get fully vegan dishes here. I suffer from a food intolerance, which is why I rely on a vegan diet. If something is not vegan, I experience health issues such as severe stomach cramps, diarrhea, and more. These symptoms typically occur about half an hour after eating non-vegan food – which, unfortunately, also happened after dinner here.
When ordering, I asked and emphasized multiple times that I require a vegan preparation and that no dairy products, etc., should be used. I was told this would be possible. I even showed the Thai symbol (the number 17), which stands for vegan food. Nevertheless, I did not have the impression that this was properly understood or even taken seriously. Unfortunately, the food was NOT vegan, which caused me discomfort for the rest of the evening. For someone with other intolerances or more serious health conditions, I find it very concerning when a restaurant claims to cater to dietary restrictions but clearly does not. This is, unfortunately, also irresponsible.
Aside from that, the Indian food was honestly not very good either. It was presented without any care, the portions were very small, we had to ask several times before we received everything we ordered, and some of the dishes were already lukewarm or cold. Very disappointing.
On top of that, ketchup was served with the dishes – something we have NEVER experienced at an Indian restaurant before. Not only does ketchup not go well at all with Indian appetizers or main dishes in terms of flavor, but it was also just slapped onto the plate. The bread was dry, cold and tastes kind of old.
All in all, a very disappointing experience. Vegan food is not reliably possible here, nor does the restaurant convince...

I never expected to find such authentic and delicious Indian food all the way in Phuket, but Royal India Restaurant blew me away! The food here tastes just like home-cooked meals – fresh, flavorful, and full of love. In fact, it's even better than many places I've tried back in India!
The quality, taste, and warmth in every bite remind me of meals cooked by family. From the curries to the breads, everything is prepared to perfection. The staff is welcoming, the vibe is cozy, and the experience is unmatched. If you're craving real Indian food while in Thailand, this place is a gem you can’t miss.
Highly recommended for anyone looking for pure desi flavors abroad. Hats off to the team for bringing such an incredible taste of India...
Read moreOpposite our hotel, we tried this place for dinner one day. We ordered butter naan, garlic naan and aloo paratha. We felt the naans were inconsistent, some thick, some thin but all tasty. I wouldn’t order the stuffed paratha again. We also ordered mango and salt lassis. We loved the drinks especially the mango lassi. The mains we ordered Aloo Curry? and Shahi Paneer. The paneer dish was better in my view. Both were good but their portions were smaller than what we are used to. They had halal food which was a nice option.
Owners are friendly and their kid played with our kids. Very nice service! Bathrooms were clean and overall good...
