Such a delightful spot! It may not be much for aesthetics, but the servers were attentive and nice, and we polished off four dishes with gusto . Our party of three ordered the shrimp pineapple fried rice, a pad thai, red curry with duck, and the pork chop/steak. We devoured everything!
One of us has a very severe nut allergy and they were able to accommodate. We asked for the pad thai without peanuts, and it was delicious! It was the first time having pad thai for one person in our party, and I’m happy to say it was a delightful experience. It wasn’t too greasy, had the perfect amount of flavor, and disappeared quickly. There were cashews in the pineapple fried rice but they quickly whisked it away and very kindly remade us one without nuts… so good!! It was the first time having pineapple fried rice for us as we aren’t the biggest fans of pineapple in savory foods, but it was also flavorful and gone pretty quickly.
My personal favorite was the duck curry. It seemed to be pieces of roast duck with delicious skin in a coconutty broth with red chilies. We asked for it spicy and although it didn’t pack the punch we were expecting, we were still pleasantly delighted with the warm flavor. Server over a bed of warm white rice, my mouth was in heaven! I would come back for this!
The pork chop was well… a pork chop. We personally treated it as a side. It came with what tasted like a black pepper mushroom gravy on the side that ended up polishing off; there were also sides of green beans, asparagus, potato, carrot, and tomato. Not the strongest contender when it comes to flavor, but it helped bulk up the meal for us. Definitely something to add if you want something that isn’t as rich! This dish we also ate right up.
We ate and left no crumbs. 😎 Washed it all down with a Chang and a Sprite.
Oh and side note that their singular servings of steamed rice are relatively large here. We ordered two rices, but maybe because we also had an order of the pineapple fried rice, we didn’t end up finishing the second portion of white rice.
That’s the end...
Read moreThe food was great, for starters we shared the Shrimp Cake, which was really good, it comes with two sweet sauces, a chilly and a sort of pineapple one, in my opinion they could go for a richer sauce, it would improve the dish a little further. Then I had the Sweet and Sour Sea-Bass, it was delicious, such a well built dish, full of good surprises, in some bites you would get some fish and vegetables with the incredibly good sauce, and in others a piece of cooked pineapple would come and increase the sweetness, I really loved. My wife had the Massaman Curry with Chicken, which was also delicious, it was only a little tiny bit spicy, to me it could have been more (but she asked for no-spicy, so it was right on the spot), but the thickness of the broth and the depth of flavor of all the spices was perfect. I’m someone who doesn’t like to repeat dishes, but would have a hard time going there again and not picking at least one of the two. Another good thing was the music, it was playing some classic rock, which I think was blended so well with the atmosphere of the place. We had been treated very well since the start, always with smiles and patience (we don’t speak the language) and by the end of the night they even treated us with a desert! To sum it all up, great place, have great options to eat in a budget while getting a lot of flavor (the curry cost is only ~120 Baht - 3.5US$) and other good ones to spend a little more (the sea-bass was 450 Baht, but they have lobster, crab, prawns), would go back there again...
Read moreAfter visiting a whole host of lunch and dinner locations over the course of 10 days, this restaurant rates as our best when considering the quality and value of the meal. The owner was a chatty Thai gentleman who had lived in Paris for many years before returning and made all the cocktails himself.
We ate the following items for lunch:
Chicken Satay - A staple of thai cuisine, we had been disappointed by some variations of it in other establishments, but here it was tender and flavourful without being oversalted (as we had found in other restaurants).
Shrimp Cakes - Having seen them on some other menus, we thought we'd give them a shot here and were very impressed. Crisp on the outside and packed with generously sized chunks of prawn.
Yellow Stir Fried Noodles w/Mixed Seafood - Although I'm often not a huge fan of thicker noodles, the dish had enough sauce to coat each mouthful and not overpower. All elements of seafood were cooked perfectly, the prawns and squid especially.
My fiance had a Pina Colada which was the best of the trip, providing a good hint of booze and pineapple but also creamy enough that it wasn't watery, which was an issue we'd found all over.
Food was served promptly and we would have stayed longer if we hadn't got some activities planned already.
It's not down the main street, however it's only 5 minutes away by foot and is...
