I recently had the pleasure of dining at Hokkaido Restaurant Genshiyaki at Sukhumvit and I have to say, it was a fantastic experience from start to finish. The restaurant is conveniently located in the heart of Bangkok and was easy to find, with ample parking space available.
Upon entering, we were greeted with a warm and friendly welcome, and the ambiance was perfect for a relaxing meal. The restaurant was beautifully decorated with traditional Japanese elements, creating a serene and inviting atmosphere.
The food at Hokkaido Restaurant Genshiyaki was truly outstanding. The dishes were prepared with great care and attention to detail, and the flavors were exquisite. The sushi was some of the freshest I've ever had, and the grilled meats were cooked to perfection. I particularly enjoyed the wagyu beef, which was melt-in-your-mouth tender and had a rich, buttery flavor. In addition, we had the pleasure of trying the oysters which were raised by the owner's farm in Japan. They were incredibly fresh and had a subtle sweetness that was unlike any other oyster I've tasted.
The service at Hokkaido Restaurant Genshiyaki was exceptional. Our waiter did a great job in recommending dishes and was always on hand to assist us. The staff was attentive, knowledgeable, and very accommodating. They made sure that every need was taken care of and that we had an enjoyable dining experience.
One recommendation that I would like to add is not to miss their highball whiskey, which was one of the best I have ever tasted. The drink was perfectly balanced and served with a generous amount of ice, making it an excellent complement to the delicious food.
Overall, I would highly recommend Hokkaido Restaurant Genshiyaki to anyone looking for an authentic and delicious Japanese dining experience. The quality of the food, the atmosphere, and the service all exceeded my expectations. I will definitely be returning to this restaurant in the future and look forward to trying more of...
Read morePursuing authentic Japanese restaurants in Bangkok, I came across this hidden gem. As soon as I walked in, I was warmly greeted by the staff and guided to a table. I felt as if I had stepped into a countryside restaurant in Japan—simple, humble, and sincere.
I ordered the oysters on promotion, the broiled seafood tower, and sweetfish (ayu). The oysters were decent, as I managed my expectations. After a short wait, the seafood tower arrived—along with an apology from the boss for the delay. He personally helped “fire” the tower, which added a theatrical and memorable touch to the experience.
What stood out to me most was the atmosphere. The hospitality here reminded me of what I often feel in truly authentic Japanese restaurants. The interior is a bit dated, but in a nostalgic way, paired with traditional Japanese music playing softly in the background. The space is cozy, with strong AC—perfect for Bangkok.
The seafood tower was also a promotional item, so I didn’t expect much, but it turned out decent. The sweetfish, however, was the highlight—memorable, satisfying, and beautifully done. The price-performance ratio is strong, especially compared to similar places around town.
Overall, it was a satisfying journey. Kudos to the Japanese owner—he reminds me of a conductor leading an orchestra with quiet empathy.

Read moreI came to Hokkaido with high expectations and positive customer reviews . I ordered the following:
Lemon Highball: I thought it comes in a glass Highball mug, but instead it was a small aluminum cup. I could not taste a hint of whiskey.
Oysters were very fresh.
Sashimi Set: Very generous portion. Hamachi , salmon , scallops , mackerel, tuna, Ikura and tamago. MIssing in action was the Amaebi. My favorites were the ikura , tamago and mackerel. Ikura for their special marinade that wasn’t too sweet or too salty. It was perfect. The tamago was fluffy with a hint of Benito and sweetness. A light dip in the soy sauce meshed everything perfectly. The winner was the mackerel. I was never a fan of pickled mackerel. Their mackerel tasted more like a smoky bacon, with a softer texture. Yummmmm.
Grilled sardines: it was dam hard like jerky. Disappointed.
Overall, I had a great experience . The Japanese manager/owner spoke English and was very accommodating . The wait staff were super nice, but only spoke thai.
Nice place . I would definitely visit again.
