Det-5 has become my regular place for lunch and dinner, not every day of course but frequently. One of the things I really appreciate is the cold scented towel they bring to you when you first sit down. It is a pleasant, non-perfumy scent, Jasmine, I think. Also, the cold most towel feels so in the heat here.
I haven't sampled everything on the lengthy menu but, of the several dishes I have tried, everything has been tasty and well presented. The other day I had a hamburger and fries. The fries were crispy and delicious and the burger was just the way I ordered it. Today, I had pad gaprao muu khai dao (pork with garlic and chilies with rice with a fried egg on top). They will make it as spicy or mild as you want but I go for the traditional preparation with is quite spicy. The richness of the egg yolk is a delicious complement to the salty spice of the pork and add a little rice and it is a bite of heaven.
One of my other favorites here is the pad-see-ew, wide noodles with meat of your choice in a savory brown sauce. It's not spicy at all and is the perfect comfort food on a rainy day.
They have an extensive bar and drink menu but I am a lightweight here and always have a soda.
The staff is friendly but not intrusive. You can sit outside where many of the tables are covered and where they have large fans to help keep you cool, or you can sit inside where it is air conditioned. Inside also are pool tables for those who enjoy the sport and are televisions that frequently show sports of one kind or another.
The prices are very reasonable, less than many of the surrounding restaurants. The only reason I don't give it 5 stars is that I reserve that for places that absolutely blow me away. However, my repeat business says more than my words how much I...

Pros: Authentic Thai food, which seems to be the main draw of the restaurant Stays open late for a late-night dinner option
Cons: Appears to be more focused on bar/drinking services rather than food Food is reported to be a bit pricey Concerning issues with the payment options - either the systems were down, or they had restrictions on accepting certain cards at certain times, which is inconvenient for customers
Overall, it seems Det.5 is more of a bar/nightlife establishment that happens to serve Thai food rather than a true Thai restaurant experience. The food may be authentic, but the emphasis seems to be more on the bar side of the business. The payment problems are also a significant drawback that could make it difficult for some customers to dine there.
So, this establishment is mainly for those specifically looking for a late-night drinking/bar scene with some Thai food options rather than diners primarily interested in an authentic Thai dining experience. The payment issues are also something to be aware of beforehand. Options with more of a focus on food quality and service may be preferable for...
Read moreBeen here few times more for the atmosphere and has a pool table (I wish they buy some new cue sticks). This time they had made new menu nice pictures but some time restaurants forget to take pictures of the real serving and this can disappoint a customer Pictures added so they can update either the picture or the food. I do wish they can reduce the whisky corkage charges to few hundred so our group of 10 can book in here as well for monthly dinners.
Today Dec 4th last attempt on friends request tried to book our group of 10 and request to charge normal corkage but were turned down on the phone that you have to pay thb 1500 per bottles as many bottles you bring (it's ridiculous) and if it's not ok never mind was the answer. really disappointed.whats only good is the location convinient but never mind we booked another Nice place will update...
