We spent two weeks at the Hyatt Regency Sukhumvit (spanning June, July and August 2022) and interacted with many staff members at this well-managed hotel. I consider myself a picky person, but this hotel was flawless. I just can't think of anything to complain (okay, the cleaning lady once forgot to place a towel set one morning, but who doesn't make mistakes especially when the hotel is full)?
All staff members that I interacted with were professional and courteous. A good number went above and beyond, touching my heart -- I hope the management will give them due recognition.
Mie at the front desk made every effort to ensure our rooms were on the same floor and to recognize my status as a Globalist. He even stayed behind after work one evening just to help us. We all found him very kind and friendly. Near the end of our stay, we saw him as a good friend and asked for him whenever we needed assistance. (By the way, everyone's great at the front desk. "Sai" for example is very kind and efficient.)
On the day my wife and child were alone, Jaye in the breakfast Market Restaurant followed my wife to help her load food in her tray. Now I have seen how Jaye works -- he is always busy at work and I can tell he takes his job seriously with pride. So it is very kind of him to help my wife despite his busy schedule. We were touched!
Concierge -- the two gentlemen whose names I have forgotten -- were patient and helpful. I had some problem with Grab Taxi on the last day (flight cancelled so I had the taxi turned back ten minutes on the road), and the person at the Concierge desk (Aug 2 evening around 10pm) spent more than 20 minutes calling Grab for me to explain the situation. Thank you! The Concierge also helped me store a few food items in their own mini fridge when we went to Ayutthaya.
Nueng, the chef in the executive lounge, made me special vegetarian pasta when he found out I was not able to eat the pasta with chicken. Too bad I did not get to say goodbye to him (he was off on the last several days). The entire team there in the lounge were excellent. Some even remembered my name.
Food during breakfast and in the executive lounge are among the top during our 50-day trip all over Thailand (staying in all three Regencies in Thailand in addition to a few Kimptons, Sheratons, Conrads in Samui, Krabi and Phukett). As a globalist, I received excellent upgrades (given they were packed), thanks to Mie who put in effort to help us.
In short, this is a GREAT hotel. It has become our home away from home. We will stay again the next time we...
Read moreI have had the pleasure of staying at the Hyatt Regency Bangkok Sukhumvit, located at the center of Bangkok. Stepping into the air conditioned lobby, you feel as though you have entered a tranquil sanctuary from the hustle and bustle of Sukhumvit road.
The hotel is very well located. Nana BTS station is a stone’s throw away. Bangkok’s most popular malls are 2-3 stops away on the BTS. Some malls, like ‘Terminal 21’ are within walking distance.
When traffic is light, a 10-minute taxi ride shall get you to Makkasan Station (a stop on the airport rail link). It is about a 10-minute walk to Sukhumvit metro station (7 stops to Sanam Chai, the stop to get off to visit Wat Pho, the Grand Palace etc..)
The staff were very welcoming and professional. Service was outstanding throughout my stay.
Breakfast at the ‘Market Café’ was superb and one of the highlights of my stay. There were MANY Asian/Western options to choose from. Most options were very good.
The biggest highlight of my stay was my room on the 22nd floor. The views were terrific, with the Bangkok skyline displayed in all its glory.
The 1 king bed deluxe room is very spacious. There is a walk-in closet, sofa/seating area, bathroom with a tub and a huge shower. The fridge is empty. The room also had a coffee machine and kettle. The hotel staff provided 6 glass mineral water bottles and made sure to place new ones every day.
I cannot comment on the other hotel restaurants, the ‘Spectrum Lounge & Bar’, and other hotel amenities such as the fitness center as I did not go there.
As much as I have loved my experience at the hotel, there were a few small things that I did not like:
Certain TV channels seem to be streamed by the hotel. There were numerous occasions where the stream was lagging, making it difficult to watch TV. It did not matter too much to me since the TV was playing in the background for the most part.
I have used the pool a couple of times. The water temperature was too cold in my opinion. The hotel has a main pool and 2 smaller ones. It would have been nice if at least one of the small pools had had warmer water. Also, the drink prices were too high, considering that most of the people using the pool are hotel guests staying at the hotel. The drink price + service charge + tax adds up quickly.
All in all, I was very pleased with my decision to stay at this superb 5-star hotel and would do so again...
Read moreSadly I have to report this to be a 5-Star hotel cost wise but in terms of the room and staff I’d give it a 3.5 Star at best. I have been to Bangkok many times and stayed at a number of other 5-Star properties that actually were just that. In fact, I’m checking out four days early to move to one of the previous locations I’ve been at which happens to have availability.
Pros: Great location, BTS access and a comfortable large bed. Breakfast variety is good with lots if Western and Eastern options. The Night manager (a woman who’s name I did not get) was extremely understanding and canceled my additional days with no charge or penalties.
Cons: My deluxe King room has zero drawer space and very limited hanging space. Your luggage will have to be on the floor and likely open to access what you need. There is no dresser or cubby to place your bag(s). Very limited selection and times for club level hors d’oeuvres in the evening. Bathroom sink area is extremely small and cluttered with, again, very limited space for toiletries. You’ll have to use the table or small ledge to have your items available. No room under or adjacent to the single sink. If you share the room with a significant other or friend you cannot help but run into each other when negotiating around the sink. Staff is friendly enough but a far cry from the typical 5-Star hotel staff I’ve had the pleasure of experiencing in the past. Carpet in the room did not seem clean. Stains and ground in dirt in high traffic areas. Room is very small and the layout not good for this price point. Think 3-Star room size and quality. The room is at least 25% smaller than a typical room at this rate and hotel rating.
Sadly, this property felt very short of expectations. I was looking forward to finding a new option and location for future visits. Having to move to another hotel was unexpected and disappointing. I am an American and this is the first time I have stayed at an American hotel brand while being in Bangkok. None of the other hotels of this level were disappointments. This one certainly is. It seems as though the Hyatt Brand really is not focused on what it truly means to offer a 5-Star experience...
