Living in US I always looked for authentic taste of Indian food at restaurants but alas did not find it. I traveled to India to get that craving satisfied but as taste expands even in India the dishes blended into each other. To my surprise when I visited Bangkok and tried food at 'Dakshin The food Culture' in Soi 22 Sukhumvit I found a taste that captivated each palate and authentic dish from various parts of India, north south, east and west equally . Not to mention the personalized service that I received. Not just the owner but the servers and the cook were also detail oriented and warm in their service. Prices well balanced for taste totally authentic. It is easy to impress a non vegetarian palate but If a cook can bring flavor and distinctness in a vegetarian dish it is applaudable. I tried paneer dishes to lentils- dal makhani, garlic naan, my son tried butter chicken, roasted and tikka, each dish surpassed the other in taste. an explosion of distinct flavors that hit the palate. Even the accompanying condiments were genuine in the flavor. Thailand has been my family's favorite vacation spot and Dakshin now is a must on our list to visit as our designated eatery "sophisticated and authentic home away from home food”. I highly recommend this place to anyone who wants who craves and wants to try authentic flavors of a dish from any...
Read moreDakshin restobar is one among the good South Indian non vegetarian restaurant in Bangkok. All types of Indian food( North Indian food and South indian food) are available here. I usually prefer to have dinner from Dakshin. This is the only one restaurant in Bangkok which serves Kerala biriyani with jeerakasala rice. All other Indian restaurants serves biriyani with Basmathi rice. But the one with Basmathi rice is available here also. All authentic Kerala food such as Pothichoru(only available on Sunday only), kothuporotta, kizhi biriyani, fish fry, fish Neervana etc are available here. Dakshin is the right choice for everyone who likes to eat Kerala food. The North Indian food luke Nan and all are also very tasty. Since the restaurant is situated in the heart of sukhumvit, it is easy to get in. But at the same time, if you are coming in your own private car you should park it in the visitor's parking lot of Hotel Marriot Bangkok which is around 800 meters walking distance. And also don't forget to validate the parking card at the restobar. The atmosphere of the restaurant is always quiet. But last time when I visit there is a sound music's going on. The place is suitable to have small parties. They have facilities for buffet. The staff usually speak Hindi but they can understand some other Indian...
Read moreThe most underwhelming dining experience I've had in a very long time. I think I landed on a really bad day, because the place was recommended by a friend. And literally nothing went right. The food took more than an hour to come. And when it came, it was really not worth the wait. The chicken roast was alright, but had no salt. The kerala parotta was good, as was the appam. But the appam came 40 mins before the fish moilee which it was meant to be eaten with. And when we asked when the fish will come, "haven't you got it yet?" was the response from the waitress. The fish came, and it was not fish moilee at all. I made better fish moilee at home with instructions from Google. Either their cook couldn't make it today because of the rains, or they were just having a bad day. The food was mediocre at best (I mean, how can you mess up a masala dosa?), and they were utterly let down by the absence of any organization. The servers were doing what they could, which wasn't much, frankly. Can't say I'm going to go here again, but I hope for their sake that today was an exceptional day for them when everything went wrong. Sadly, it's the only experience I've had, and it...
