First hearing about this restaurant was that it has the title for good steak and so I thought I'd come by to try. Nice and classic atmosphere start from the entrance. The front yard parking lot might seem a little small but there're space behind the building. There's actually a valet parking, which very convenient. I first tried a soup and hot roll and ordered a steak. The minestrone soup served in a good hot temperature, I think this might come to a personal taste. The hot roll was something I long for. There was one place that serve delicious hot roll, here was almost as good. Although I wish they didn't put peas in it, not that I mind peas but it was hard to describe how they were a bit nutty and not soothing, I've had better minestrone with out peas. When comes the choice of frozen meat, I wish I picked a smaller piece. Somehow, Kobe steak suppose to be juicy and little fatty, may be this was a little too much and I guess because the piece was a bit too big and it took time to finish them, it started to get a bit cold. I wish they serve a little more portion of veggies . I kind of felt a little sick in my tummy after dinning but may be because it was a little too much. Some how, I still prefer the Japanese serving version. Overall, the steak was great, it was the main reason I came to tried, but it might take awhile after I detox myself from meat, I think. Great service, the place gives that nostalgic heart warming atmosphere,...
Read moreOverall, disappointing.
The reviews and the initial formality of the look and feel raised an expectation that fell way too short for me!
The Tenderloin steak was tasty enough albeit I ordered a medium which landed on my plate a little red raw rather than pink.
The chips/ fries we're inedible- that's just not acceptable especially in a relatively expensive eatery - a few frozen, over cooked and warm fries....
It's not hard to get the fries freshly cooked and on your plate within a matter of minutes even if they are just bog standard frozen ones.
A steak house has to get their fries right! Freshly cut and cooked...come on!
The 'gravy' was indescribable- in colour and taste - once again, a packeted processed sauce, I can only imagine.
The garlic bread - It's a rare find to taste a fresh garlic bread and Neil's Tavern was sadly no exception.
The salad was just a sad little bowl with a processed dollop of thousand island.
I am not that hard to please and other than the steak that just about managed to hit the taste buds, the rest was an anti-climax, I am sorry to say Neil...
Would I return - nope! A mark out of ten....six for just the steak.
I really wanted to be "wowed" but ended up with...

when i ordered the onion soup we asked if it came with bread on the side, they said yes but when it came it didn't come with bread, and when we were done having our appetisers they removed our basket of bread without informing us and when we asked for more bread they charged us, which i think was just some miscommunication but still was a little annoyed, but our main server was very polite and nice :)
the atmosphere was very romantic for a lovely dinner with my girlfriend.
will recommend...
