If you're familiar with After You Dessert, this Chinatown branch offers a completely different vibe from their usual locations. Tucked in the heart of Bangkok's bustling Chinatown, this particular branch stands out with its unique design and menu, tailored to match the area's Chinese heritage. The layout feels cozy and distinctly themed, reflecting a fusion of Chinese aesthetics, unlike the more modern designs you’d find in their other stores.
The Menu: I tried two standout dishes that are only available at this location: the French Toast with Salted Egg and a couple of their famous kakigori options – the Mango Sticky Rice Kakigori and Milo Kakigori.
French Toast with Salted Egg: This was easily the highlight of my visit. The toast was perfectly golden, crispy on the outside, and soft on the inside. What made this dish truly special was the salted egg element. Unlike some versions where the salted egg can be overwhelmingly salty, here it was balanced just right. It added a savory depth that paired beautifully with the sweetness of the toast, creating an unexpected but delightful flavor combination. If you’re a fan of salted egg treats, this dish is a must-try!
Mango Sticky Rice Kakigori and Milo Kakigori: Both kakigori (shaved ice) desserts were good but didn’t stand out as much as the toast. The Mango Sticky Rice Kakigori captured the essence of Thailand’s beloved dessert with a refreshing twist. Instead of mango chunks, the mango was mashed into the ice, giving it a smooth, almost creamy texture that blended nicely with the sweetness of the shaved ice. However, I felt the sticky rice portion could have been a bit richer. The Milo Kakigori was a nostalgic treat for anyone who grew up loving Milo, with a generous dusting of the iconic chocolate malt powder. While enjoyable, it didn’t have the same wow factor as the French Toast. Both kakigori desserts were refreshing but felt more like a standard offering than something you’d specifically come back for.
Overall: This branch of After You is a must-visit if you’re in Chinatown. The unique menu items, particularly the French Toast with Salted Egg, offer something different from their usual outlets, and the setting provides a distinct cultural experience. Whether you’re looking for a quick dessert stop or something special, this branch is...
Read moreNot a fan of shaved ice so I was skeptical about the rave reviews of After You. We passed by this shop in Chinatown and decided to give it a try.
We ordered the mango sticky rice kakigori and after the first spoonful none of us could stop eating till it's finished!
I didn't see how it was made, but my mom saw the staff was measuring the shaved ice dome with some measuring device so I don't know if that's why it took a while.
The presentation is amazing. The dome definitely looks like coarse shaved ice but somehow it was fluffy like fresh snow, and it tastes like smooth silky mango ice cream. I still can't wrap my head around how this is even possible. Inside the shaved ice dome are mango chunks and sticky rice. The slightly salted coconut milk and mango syrup made it even better. It's very refreshing yet not overly sweet. I am now a fan of mango sticky rice kakigori.
The shop looks like an upscale coffee shop in the 60's with lots of modern twist. It's cozy and I can see myself...
Read moreI had an incredible experience at After You Café in Bangkok! The ambiance is super cozy and inviting, perfect for a relaxing afternoon. The highlight, of course, is their signature desserts. The Shibuya Honey Toast is an absolute must-try — it’s decadent, perfectly toasted, and so flavorful. I also had the Matcha Kakigori, which was refreshing and delicious. The staff is friendly and attentive, making the whole visit even better. Whether you're a dessert lover or just looking for a cozy spot to unwind, After You is a must-visit!...
