Tucked away in a quiet alley behind the iconic Jok Prince Porridge in Bang Rak, Khamoo Thewada offers a dining experience that feels like uncovering a secret treasure. Its unassuming location and humble setup belie the culinary excellence waiting within.
Today, I indulged in their signature dish: the stewed pork leg with rice and egg—an absolute revelation. For just 60 baht, this dish delivers an experience that rivals meals ten times the price.
The pork leg is stewed to perfection, achieving a melt-in-your-mouth tenderness that speaks of hours of careful preparation. Each bite offers layers of richness, enhanced by a slight charred "wok hei" smokiness that lends a subtle complexity to the flavor profile. The pork skin is silky smooth yet delicately chewy, a textural delight that complements the luscious meat.
What elevates this dish further is the thoughtful pairing of accompaniments. The garlic-chili sauce, with its zesty heat, cuts through the richness of the pork, while the crunch of raw green chilies adds an exciting burst of freshness. Together, they create a harmony of flavors that transforms a comforting classic into something truly exceptional.
The rice, a simple yet essential element, acts as the perfect canvas for soaking up the flavorful juices. It’s a testament to the attention to detail that defines this small but mighty eatery. Beyond the food, the restaurant itself is clean, comfortable, and inviting—an oasis amidst the bustling streets of Bangkok.
Whether you're a local or a visitor, this hidden gem is a must-visit for an unforgettable dining experience.

Read moreIt took me quite a long while to decide if I wanted to post a review on Khamoo Thewada. Unfortunately. For selfish reason. But, happy things need to be shared. Khamoo Thewada is my must-go every time I am in Bangkok. It is located in a small lane beside the famous Jok Prince Chinese congee. The pig trotters are braised to just fall off the bone. In recent years, they have altered the done-ness of their hard boiled egg to be like an onzen egg…with a soft yolk. Apart from the pig trotters, love the innards as well. Our usual order will be individual plates and side orders of tau pok and innards. The individual rice plates, with trotters, is more cost efficient than getting a whole trotter and side servings of plain rice. We had tried another Khamoo in Yaowarat (much raves about) but this is still the...
