I had high hopes for Khaosan Restaurant as the food was actually great—I really enjoyed the Pad Thai and Papaya Salad. The place is comfortable, air-conditioned, and seemed like a good spot to relax.

However, my experience was completely ruined by what seemed like a dishonest practice. After asking for the bill and paying in cash, the waiter returned with change but without the receipt. I immediately noticed that the change didn’t seem right. When I insisted on getting the receipt, they came back with the correct change—150 baht more than they initially gave me.

They add 7% of VAT to your bill without informing you- the restaurants around here don't usually do it, so it gives a scammy vibe from the place. Actually this is the first time I saw such a thing. I ended up paying the equivalent of €14 for a basic avocado toast with poached egg, a bowl of sliced raw veggies and an ice cappuccino. I don't think you'd pay this price in any EU country...
