Read morei have visited many cecconi restaurants around the world, my first time visiting this location was this past january. i was so looking forward to coming to back to istanbul and specifically coming back to tbis restaurant.
my experience in january was amazing! from the service, to the kindness of the servers- the food being great was just the cherry on top of an amazing experience.
todays visit was SUCH a disappointment. we walked in with no reservation (the restaurant was pretty empty around 6pm lots of empty tables, we all know istanbul is a city that is busy at night) we were greeted by an incredibly rude lady with red hair in a red suit, we asked for a table for two outside and she rudely and disrespectfully stated that outside is full and we need a reservation but we can sit inside. her tone and demeanour for a hostess was incredibly shocking. how she spoke with us vs how she spoke with the other patrons (who were not black) was very telling. i had an inkling that discrimination was at play but i didn’t push further because i was so shocked at how rude this woman was, i expect more from the people that work at such a world renown restaurant such as cecconis
we agreed to sit inside and as we were walking through the restaurant we were able to see soooooo many empty tables outside. so i asked the hostess again and she barked at me and rudely remarked that it’s full and we cannot sit there. so i gave the restaurant a call and spoke with someone named omer and i asked for a reservation for two outside and he was more than happy to say that they had space available, i also made a point to tell him my name.
i got up and went to the bar and asked the bar man to speak with omer, i ran into the rude red haired woman and told her to wait until omer came. when omer arrived i reminded him about our phone convo and made a point to tell him that suddenly when im talking on the phone and my appearance isn’t seen there is a table available- however when i enter the r establishment this rude woman sees me looks at me up and down and immediately refuses to give us a table outside and was frankly not enthused to even seat us inside. omer began making excuses for her and the restaurant and didn’t even want to speak to her arrogance and blatant rudeness, despite the fact that she only treated us this way (the only black patrons) and no one else.
after a lot of back and forth he asked us to stay and to sit outside, and continue the conversation further- however at that point the shock of this woman was too much to bear. she even made it a point to run away once i confronted her in front of omer because she knew she did something wrong.
i’m so incredibly disappointed that my favourite cecconi location has now been soured by an ignorant rude woman who quite frankly should not be working at a restaurant that has diverse clientele, and frankly she should be fired. i appreciate omers willingness to try to right her wrongs however, you can’t fix soured milk. it’s safe to say i will not be coming back and i will stop singing cecconi...

The restaurant’s setting was undoubtedly beautiful, with a charming and sophisticated ambiance that set high expectations. Unfortunately, the quality of food fell short of these expectations, particularly given the premium pricing.
To start, my veal tonnato was disappointingly bland, lacking any discernible seasoning. The accompanying salsa verde tasted stale and reminiscent of a store-bought variety, detracting from the dish’s potential.
Moving on to the main courses, my dining companion ordered the Cacio e Pepe—a quintessential Italian pasta dish that any high-caliber restaurant should excel at. Sadly, it was a bowl of overcooked pasta overwhelmed by an excessive amount of cheap, hard cheese. The balance was completely off, turning what should be a simple, elegant dish into an inedible mess.
I opted for the Branzino with clams. What arrived was an overcooked fillet of fish with soggy skin, served on a bed of clams that had the texture of chewing gum. The sauce was watery and under-seasoned, failing to elevate the dish in any meaningful way.
Adding to the disappointment, my third companion ordered the pea and asparagus risotto but was mistakenly served ravioli. By the time her corrected dish arrived, the rest of us had finished our meals. The risotto itself was undercooked, with rice grains that were hard and flavorless. The peas were still frozen, and the asparagus was limp and unappetizing, floating in a soupy, unseasoned green mixture.
