I have eaten a few times in Chinese restaurants around the world, but Meihua is on top of my list. I was impressed with their dishes; we ate here in September ‘21, a party of three foodies always craving for good food, but also very demanding. We ordered: imperial rice, thinly cut potatoes with chilli, beef oxtail in brown sauce, beef tripe with vegetables, beef dumplings, and poached seabass with bok choy in chilli sauce. The potatoes, the oxtail and the fish were out of this world. Cooked to perfection, the thinly cut golden potato stripes were excellently seasoned with chilli and garlic; the oxtail had a very well balanced brown sauce which apparently is easy to made, but so hard to make it taste unique. The chillied seabass left us without words. Hot for a more delicate palate, but perfect for those used to the hotter Asian dishes, this plate could well fit in any Michelin starred restaurant.
Very large portions (the menu photos are a bit misleading, the portions are bigger than they seem), fair prices (we paid around 450TL, about 45€, for a party of 3 including water and soda), nice and relaxed, but effective service.
I know that most of the tourists usually look for traditional Turkish cuisine, but this place is worth to...
Read moreI was rather looking forward to try this restaurant out after reading the good reviews.
Well, I was very dissapointed by the food. Ordered 2 dishes plus rice:
Stir fried mixed vegetable (炒三鲜),which was not bad if a little oily.
Beef with radish (牛肉榨菜),which is actually Beef with spicy picked root vegetable.
This is a traditional homely receipe that any decent Chinese can cook pretty good.
Well this one from the restraint was super salty (they didn't rinse the picked vege enough) AND with 98% vege with a few measly stripes of beef (I can count them on one hand).
It's called Beef with Radish, not Radish with Beef. How can any decent chef try to pass it off as a restaurant meal? My guess is this is near the end of the day and they've ran out of prepped ingredients. Rather than let me know and switch to a different dish, they've decided to pass it off.
That's cheeky and really not a way to run a good restaurant.
For this you earned a poor 2stars review.
In case anyone asks why I didn't take this point to the restaurant. Due to covid curfews in Turkey, restraints only serve take out meals after 7pm. I didn't find out about the meal after we'd gone back to the hotel and I don't have a Turkish phone...
Read moreWe visited this restaurant for dinner two nights ago. The downstairs area was full except for one table, which we wanted to sit at. However, the waiters told us to go upstairs. We assumed it was because the other table was too close, so we didn’t question it and went up without complaint.
Today, we went back for lunch. This time, nearly all the tables downstairs were empty except for one. We asked to sit at a table in the corner, but once again, a waiter—along with an East Asian woman who seemed to be the manager or owner—insisted we go upstairs. That’s when we realized what was actually happening. They didn’t want us sitting among them because of our skin color.
We are tourists from the Maldives, visiting Cappadocia for the second time, and this is the first time we’ve experienced such blatant racism. They didn’t want people to see brown-skinned guests sitting downstairs in their Chinese restaurant.
To fellow travelers: I strongly advise against eating here. There are far better Chinese restaurants nearby—with better food and service, where you'll be treated with dignity. Support businesses that respect all people. And to the owner: It’s 2025, not the 90s. It’s time to grow...
