I've been to this place but once many years ago and thought never again. I remember it being dirty, in need of a paint job throughout, desperately overdue for a cleaner who can do the job (a team) and the disgusting loo's needed a major refit. But then it pops up as a new venue on the Cask-Marque Ale Trail. Incredible!! I had to go, perhaps they had cleaned the place up, organised a decent cellar instead of just serving Guinness. It takes a bit of effort to get on the C-MAT, you need an in depth knowledge on how to keep ale - temperature, clarity, taste and smell - all that stuff. Not every publican can be bothered with the effort (or the £200+ yearly stipend) It was a big disappointment (as I suspected) The barmaid knew nothing of Cask Marque, there was no certificate on display and the ale? The one beer being served (I thought to qualify more was required) from one of two pumps, hardly got past my nose and a mere sip condemned even that small sample to the sink. How they got accreditation I just do not know. As for the state of the place, see as above - no change

A weekend away in Bristol and Bath to savour this lovely town. Retail therapy complete we were seeking pubs serving mulled wine. This typical Irish pub was very busy and a bit quirky. A twosome consisting of a singer on lead guitar and his mate on a bass guitar were strumming out some good music. Good selection of real ales but we went for the mulled wine.....very expensive! Bar staff not particularly friendly....didn't even know the name of the band.....ah well !!

Typical old feel for an Irish bar. Large patio area at the front and decently decorated place. Staff were friendly and polite. Guinness was expensive but very enjoyable. Toilets were the same, cubicle wouldn't lock, door looked homemade and graffiti on the walls, very poor. Place is situated in a nice area. Good visit for the Guinness and staff.

My friend and I sat at the top end of the club Near the staff only door. When I felt the door move I quickly moved out of the way. And let staff through A friend was SITTINg next to the door, NOT obstructing and the bar staff knocked her drink from her hands. The glass broke on the floor and we asked for a new glass. The staff member “felix” was extremely rude and refused a new drink with extreme attitude. We are not drunk, nor causing an issue. We simply feel it was a mutual accident therefore not a particular fault but feel we were treated extremely poorly. The staff member continued to give attitude and sarcastic personality toward us. Very unprofessional. This member of staff seemed as though they felt they did not want to be here. It was 11.15pm so very early in comparison. Other pub goers saw this happen and felt as mortified as us. As it was certainly not our fault. Absolute shambles of a member of staff. Should not work here if you cannot liaise with customers politely. Vile. Bye felix

Sean the landlord and Taylor the bouncer were AMAzINg at sorting this problem. They offered my friend a new drink and took it seriously and listened to our grievances. Top...

Visiting Bath for the day while England were Playing Wales in the 6 Nations. We stumbled across this pub and thought we'd go in to watch the match. The pub was absolutely packed and so we could only stand close to the door and were unable to get to the bar to order a drink.

After 2 minutes the barman/owner approached us from the outside to ask if we had a drink, to which we replied 'no' - because we weren't able to get to the bar. He accused us of standing there for ages, being liars because we couldn't get to the bar and ordered us to leave. We were shocked and embarrassed at his disgusting attitude and decided to leave and go elsewhere.

Instead we found a pub called 'The Grapes' just down the road with a friendly atmosphere, seating, food - and most importantly- pleasant staff.

Stay clear of Flan O'briens...
