Me, my husband, my parents and my dogo where there yesterday eve (between 4 and 6.30ish) and had 2 nasty encounters with i presume a loca who said he was going to kick my dog and when i replied “i don’t think you want to hurt my dog” he said “i will hUrt you too”. A member or staff heard these comments and difuse the situation but did nothing more. A few moments later, my husband went outside for a moment and this man said to him “shut the door you cunt”. Later on, the staff rang the bell and got us all to sing happy birthday to this man (i think he is a regular) and made us feel incredibly uncomfortable as not only nothing happened to him for verbally abusing us but we then had to sit next to him for the rest of our time and appraise him for his birthday. I didn’t have the chance to say anything at the time as my parents are visiting from Spain and didn’t want to generate an uncomfortable situation but we do come here often and love this place and the fact that all this happened was incredibly disappointing for me. Can i assume this was just some kind of one off? Or is this regular client done this previously? It’s a small coZy pub so hard to ignore someone who went for ua twice in the space of 20 mins. I would appreciate any kind...
Read moreSimply put...the worst experience I have had to endure in forty years of visiting public houses. I arrived in the pub to meet my two sons and my older son's girlfriend. I was a little late so they already had their drinks. The young chap behind the bar seemed completely disinterested, staring at his mobile phone whilst I waited to be served. Eventually I was served a pint after prompting him. Having finished our first round of drinks my younger son ordered another round. It was then that the rude barman said that I'd had enough to drink and that he wouldn't be serving me. I informed him I'd had one pint and nothing beforehand. For some reason he didn't believe me. This caused a little bit of an argument and eventually I left the pub having been completely embarrassed in front of my own kids by the rude barman. I then went to the Barley Mow where I was treated like a paying customer should be. A far nicer pub.
The choice of ale is good at the Hand in Hand but the staff are rude and have no customer service skills whatsoever.
An apology via this medium should be the bare minimum but I won't...
Read moreVisited The Hand In Hand one Father's Day just on the off-chance a couple of years ago, and absolutely glad that I had. A smashing little pub that oozes nothing but character, and the locals there were the friendliest I have ever come across in any pub. Turned out the young lady behind the bar was a former work-colleague who we got on very well. Obviously my Dad was with me and he found the pub a refreshing change. I also caught the news on Meridian Tonight about the mobile pub service The Hand in Hand are operating at the moment, a young friendly lady on a push-bike with a storage box designed and painted like the pub building, and thought it a kindly, truly inspirational thing to do in such a trying time for everyone. Cannot wait for lockdown to stop so I can visit The Hand...
