Shaanxi Noodle Bar - Brighton Located in the lively center of Brighton, Shaanxi Noodle Bar offers a mix of authentic flavors and an inviting atmosphere, but unfortunately, my recent experience wasn’t entirely as satisfying as I’d hoped.
While the menu showcases a solid selection of noodle dishes, the service and some of the details left a lot to be desired. The food itself is tasty, with the noodles fresh and the flavors bold.
The timing of the meals was a major issue. Our group of four experienced a rather frustrating wait as our mains arrived one by one, not all together. This meant we couldn’t enjoy our meal as a group, which, for a casual noodle bar, is a pretty significant downside. To make matters worse, when we requested two dishes to be made without chili, they came out still packed with it. It was disappointing, especially when there was a clear effort to tailor the meal to our preferences.
It was also noticeable that the staff appeared quite young, with most of them under 25. This gave the place a certain energy, but it also felt a bit like a fast-food chain at times — not what you might expect from a more authentic dining experience.
The drink selection also could use some work. All the soft drinks are bottled, and the only non-bottled options are also some Italian San Pellegrino sodas or bottles Aloe supermarket drink.
Despite the solid quality of the food, the slow service, garlic overload, and lack of consistency make me hesitant to return. Shaanxi Noodle Bar has potential, but there are definitely areas where they...
Read moreMuch to my surprise, I found an extremely unfavourable review in other pages of this little gem of a place near Brighton railway station. That was a review of the takeaway service, and we have never done other than eat in, so perhaps the other reviewer had a one-off unfortunate experience. Many of the customers of this place are Chinese - and that is always a good sign when deciding whether to give an oriental cuisine restaurant a try: they really KNOW the good ones from the bad! Judging by the amount of takeaway trade the restaurant does whilst we are inside, it also has many satisfied customers for that side of the business. The menu covers all the usual Chinese fare, but many other interesting dishes not generally found in most restaurants of this type. The food is piping-hot and service is friendly and efficient. There are only four or five sit-in tables - as stated above, it is a modest establishment. House wine is excellent. We always enjoy our food here - we go regularly - and we have not been disappointed yet. Our meal, for two, the other day with several dishes and wine came to £42.00, which we thought very good value for what we had. Unfortunately, they do not do the big, chunky spring rolls, but there are many other tempting starters on offer. Do...
Read moreWhat can I say. The first time eating hand cut noodles for the house speciality beef rib. Now I have had hand cut don’t want to go back to normal noodles again Like getting a really good Italian pasta. You could not express how tasty and soft the noodles were. They picked up the sauce delicately. Plenty spring onions and vegetables. Asked for extra spicy which was nice( you will feel it the next day. But not when your eating it ) The beef rib was fall off the bone and you can ask for them to cut it for you and take off the bone. The beef rib was so tasty and went perfect with the noodle that was coated. Like a good pasta. I just enjoyed eating the noodles for their taste. They had the nice Chinese beer and the smacked cucumber or as I know it smashed cucumber was delish in the spicy sauce. I didn’t like the seating. It felt more like a cafe. When the food was this good. But that’s just because i was enjoying the experience of new food so much. Highly recommended. I had a lot of choices but glad i went for...
