This pizza is visually impressive, with a great crust and beautiful leopard spotting on the base. The cooking technique is commendable, with the pizza staying perfectly in place during its time in the oven. It's arguably the best pizza in Chester, but it does share some common issues with traditional Neapolitan pizzas. The base lacks a bit of flavor, the main base is stretched too thin with the air being patted out, and the sauce was a bit too wet, probably from the mozzarella. The san marzano tomatoes seems to lack flavour, DOP san marzanos are usually sweeter.
While many will find it to be an excellent pizza, considering its top-tier status in the UK (ranked in the top 3), I believe the base could use more flavor. Perhaps experimenting with Nancy Silverton's dough recipe from Pizzeria Mozza, LA, which includes wheat germ and rye flour, could add that depth of flavor typically found in longer-fermented doughs.
The menu could also be expanded. While there's a commitment to sticking to just pizza, introducing a white pizza with crème fraîche, jalapeños, tuna, and anchovies in oil would be a welcome addition. Offering a few pasta or gnocchi dishes could also broaden the appeal, catering to diners who aren't solely focused on pizza.
The desserts were very good.
A small note was that staff should not be bring Costa coffee in the restaurants that sells coffee!
All in all, it's a fantastic pizza restaurant, but one with the potential to become...
Read moreBeing an avid pizza fan, I couldn't not visit Stile Napoletano during a recent weekend trip to Chester following the amazing reviews! I booked ahead online and was warmly welcomed in on a Saturday night. The small restaurant had a lovely atmosphere, with the Sicilian style decor adding to this. The staff was very friendly and the right amount of attentive. I was given time to look at the menu then gave my order. This came in good time, and I was not disappointed! I order the classic Margherita. This was absolutely amazing. The dough had a lovely light crisp and was perfectly cooked and light in the middle of the crust. The level of char was perfect on both the crust and underneath to compliment the acidity of the tomato sauce and saltiness of the cheese. The tomato sauce tasted fresh and was well balanced, and the cheese was very flavoursome. The ratio of cheese to sauce was perfect. I could not fault this pizza, it is in the top five I have ever had (after having several across Italy!). This was also very affordable. Of note, due to the location, I did not get any signal or mobile data in the restaurant, which was not a problem for me personally but could be something to consider if you are dining here! 10/10 would recommend and I hope to come back in...
Read moreThis place is such a gem! It's pretty small so would recommend booking. The food is amazing, we had margarita pizza and the calzone special and both were delicious, in fact my husband and I both agreed we enjoyed them more than the pizza we had in Italy! And we shared the Nutella and pistachio dessert which was so so good! I think the drink selection could be more exciting. Pear juice and peach juice aren't really very thirst quenching and sometimes it's nice to have something other than your usual soft drinks. There is plenty of choice for wine drinkers though (of which me or my husband aren't). Staff were lovely, gave us a warm welcome and service with a smile apart from one older lady who was quite abrupt and very matter of fact when serving and didn't come across as much of a people person. Who knows what kind of day she may of already had, but I think it's good to point out these things because your demeanor as a server, has an impact on your customers experience. We will most definitely return to this place when we next visit Chester again, the food is...
