This place located centrally in brighton on Saint James street offers a variety of bakes from sweet to savoury. I did not want to give it a 4 star first but the food saved it. I had a chocolate cake which seemed made with coconut and cocoa topped with shredded coconut pieces. It tastes great and fudgy( 3£) The decaf latte was a large one for 3.3£, with a delightful taste of fresh coffee. The pizza is mind blowing, I love thick crust pizzas.but this one has a fluffy spongy thick crust, that is crispy on the bottom and melts in your mouth i got the vegetarian one which had mixed vegs and topped with probably the best cheese. In few words the pizza had an amazing taste that lifted me. A slice of pizza is for 2.95£.
On the other hand, the place doesn't offer a menu with price list, and no prices are displayed on the items. One of the staff was very dry and looked bored which at first gave me a very bad impression of the place. But then I realised it is probably her character cz she tried to pull a smile while serving the coffee. The chefs are so nice and welcoming. I think this place should display item names and prices for people to be encouraged to buy because noone wants to order and be surprised by the bill or be annoying and ask about every single item price especially if staff looked bored and not interested to help. If it wasn't for this it definitely deserves 5 stars🤩
The ambiance had chill yet energizing vibe with mix of rnb pop and soul music playing the the background. Seating is okey but can be improved, you could also see the bakery kitchen which is reassuring.toilettes are...
Read moreAny vegetarian that comes to this bakery should triple check that they have definitely got what they’ve ordered. In most cases; yes mistakes happen. In this case, we complained about having meat in a pizza roll type thing once being told that there was no meat in it. We then asked to speak to the manager as we felt we were owed a refund. Shortly followed by a snappy rude response from a brunette lady(who I see has already been mentioned in other 1 star reviews) stating that he wasn’t here and can’t do anything about it.
After pressing 4 times asking for the manager they finally decided to give us a refund, but only for the pizza roll and gave us £3 back. To which we stated that we wanted a full refund which in total was £11.50. Which she was extremely resistant to do so. Then had the audacity to say that “it’s just meat, it won’t kill you”. Nor did she apologise once for the mistake of making two vegetarians eat meat and gave inconsiderate amount of attitude, therefore leaving the bakery in unwanted atmosphere. This could have been easily prevented if this one particular member of staff were trained for customer service as clearly she doesn’t have any experience.
As I stated previously we understand that mistakes happen, but this is not okay. More than safe to say I will never come to this bakery again and will recommend everyone not to go there due to...
Read moreThe place itself is welcoming. The assortments of desserts and savouries definitely draw you in. The staff at the time explained what each item is and what it contains, which showed some refreshing pride in Vero's produce. As for the food and drink: I absolutely loved the white chocolate (cioccolata bianca) I ordered. It was thick, creamy and very flavourful; a savoured indulgent treat. The pistachio cannoli, however, was a bit disappointing, mainly because the wafer was quite chewy and stale like it had been there for days. The bakery says everything's made fresh on the day, but given the plethora of baked goods they do have on display, I cast doubt on that. Also, I was given unwashed spoons for both my food and drink, one of which I had to clean with my alcohol rub before using for my dessert. The place could do with paying more attention to the finer details like that. Finally, when it came to splitting the bill between my party and me for a 3-for-£10 offer on the desserts, we were actually overcharged for it (£10.50). I'll revisit at some point, but I'll probably do the takeaway...
