Our recent visit to Khaleej Mandi restaurant left much to be desired, to say the least. Despite arriving with high hopes, our experience on Saturday, May 4th, was marred by a series of disappointments that cannot be overlooked.
Firstly, upon arrival, we were met with disorganization as our booking seemed to have vanished into thin air. The maitre d's lackadaisical attitude in locating our reservation, written on a scrap of paper, was our first indication of the evening's downhill trajectory. Eventually seated in a half-empty restaurant, we hoped for a redeeming dining experience.
While our waitress exhibited commendable friendliness and politeness, it was overshadowed by the restaurant's disregard for crucial dietary information. We explicitly informed the staff about a severe nut allergy, emphasizing the need for meticulous attention to avoid any risk of cross-contamination. Despite assurances of caution, our trust was shattered when a starter, the khibbet, was served containing nuts. The potential consequences could have been catastrophic, and the management's response was woefully inadequate.
Furthermore, the restaurant's ambiance and presentation left much to be desired. The plastic table coverings evoked memories of outdated wedding receptions, and the menu's lack of cohesion reflected a confused identity. While purportedly Yemeni, the menu featured a mishmash of dishes from various Middle Eastern regions, further contributing to our uncertainty about the restaurant's culinary direction.
Throughout the evening, we encountered consistent lapses in service, from the absence of basic amenities like napkins and utensils to subpar cleanliness standards in the restroom. The food itself was underwhelming, lacking both flavor and presentation.
Despite our ordeal, the management's response fell short of expectations. A mere 10% discount and the removal of the offending dish from the bill were offered as recompense for the potentially life-threatening oversight. This gesture, while appreciated, does little to address the underlying issues of negligence and complacency within the establishment.
In conclusion, our visit to Khaleej Mandi was one of the worst dining experiences we've encountered. The disregard for guest safety, coupled with substandard service and culinary execution, has left us deeply disappointed. We implore the management to prioritize guest welfare and attention to detail, particularly regarding allergies, to prevent such incidents in the future. Regrettably, we cannot in good conscience recommend this restaurant and will not...
Read moreToday, my outing with my friends at Khaleej Mandi was supposed to be the highlight of our day, in celebration of a friend’s graduation. On the other hand, this turned out to be the worst part of our day. First of all, the bad day started when our friend found out that the place does not accept bookings. Today is a Saturday, and we’re just supposed to walk in hoping to find space? Without the certainty of getting the space. There was very poor coordination, and poor communication between members of staff. When we arrived at the place, we were told that the wait time would have been approximately one hour, which ended up nearly one and a half hours, and when we were called to come in, the staff realised that they had called us in for the wrong room, and were made to wait an additional 20 minutes. I was not pleased with how the staff treated us, using words like “bro” and not treating us in a professional manner. We had a hard time communicating when our food, and extra dishes were mistakenly added to our table, which we were assured would be removed from the final bill, but they still managed to sneak their way in there. All the food for 10 people, arrived within 10-12 minutes, which makes me suspect that it wasn’t fresh and was just warmed up. The worst part of it all, we took our shoes off and left them out of the room, as we were sitting on the floor. Two of my friends had white shoes, and somebody had spilled food on them!!! They are quite expensive shoes, for which now they will have to spend additional, unplanned money to restore them. And for the cherry on the cake, when we wanted to pay, we split the bill between all of us, which took like 10-15 minutes because the cashier had mistakenly forgotten to add one of the bills paid by one of us, and was trying to figure out who hadn’t paid for their share when all of us had paid!!! In conclusion I’d like to say that this was probably my worst dining experience. I’ve eaten in so many places, and I’ve never felt such negative feelings towards any restaurant as this one. Would not...
Read moreI had high hopes for this restaurant after hearing great things about the food, and while the food did live up to expectations, the service was completely unacceptable.
From the moment we arrived, we were greeted by a rude waitress who made us feel unwelcome, that and the strange sewer smell made us consider leaving.
Despite fasting, we were refused tap water but after hearing other tables complain they did end up giving everyone water. We specifically requested that our meal be served in time for iftar, but this was denied. Additionally, when we wanted to pray, we were initially refused, even though we had seen men praying (we were a group of women). Since missing prayer wasn’t an option, we waited until the men finished and got up nevertheless.
Our food arrived earlier than iftar, meaning it sat there getting cold. When we asked for it to be reheated, they took it away and forgot to bring it back until we had to chase them up. A simple request for a takeaway box took 15 minutes. The service was also disorganised, with multiple waitresses serving us without proper communication, leading to us being offered the complimentary tea several times after refusing it. The tea itself was disappointing, it lacked authenticity, and none of us could finish it.
Paying the bill was another ordeal. We waited 15–20 minutes while others kept cutting ahead of us, and the servers did nothing to manage the queue. We were told that if we paid in cash, we’d get a 10% discount, but we were also asked to leave a positive review instead of a negative one - which was unprofessional.
I don’t usually leave negative reviews, but the service was truly disappointing. While the food was genuinely good (lamb mandi), I wouldn’t return based on the poor...
