Tantalizer Africana Adorable Kitchen 🥩 🍚 📍 84 Prospect Street, Hull, HU2 8PE Having 1/4 South African in me, I love getting the chance to explore African cuisine! A while back I noticed this cosy little restaurant near where Debenhams used to be that serves African food and uses halal meat. 😱 As soon as I saw the halal logo, I knew I had to share this place with you lot! The only thing is the halal sign is very tiny, no bigger than the tip of my finger, so a larger one would definitely attract a wider range of customers. Nkwobi (£10) I didn’t even know what this was when I ordered it, I just saw it under the specials and thought it’d be fun to try! I’ll be honest, one of the servers came across a bit rude, almost looking down on me like I wouldn’t be able to handle the spice. I had to insist I wanted it and got a bit of an “okay, suit yourself” vibe. I actually felt like leaving, but I still wanted to try it. I do feel if a customer orders something, it should just be accepted without hesitation. Nkwobi is cow’s feet/hooves, definitely one of the most exotic dishes I’ve tried on this account! 😂 In a weird way, the feet taste a bit like mushrooms and were genuinely delicious. Chewy, juicy and full of flavour! Spice-wise, I managed it fine, though it might be a bit much for anyone who doesn’t usually have spice. I enjoyed it, but the portion is very small for £10. I assumed it would come with rice or something, so definitely order a side. 7.5/10 After eating, another server handled my payment and she was much nicer, but when I checked reviews later, a few people also mentioned concerns about the staff. I hoped it was a one-off and decided to give them another chance. On my second visit, the greeting was much warmer. It was a different person on the till and they were friendly and welcoming. Jollof Rice 🍚(£4.99) I learnt from last time to definitely get a side! 😂 The jollof had that classic spicy tomato flavour, but I could also taste a burnt note. Maybe it was left in the pan too long or the oil burnt, I honestly don’t know. It was edible, but I don’t think the burnt taste was meant to be there. 6/10 Beef 🥩 (£3) I was honestly baffled when the portion came and it was one forkful of beef. 🥲 I understand costs and profit, but it was prepared pretty quickly, and the serving was extremely small. It had tomato purée on top and just tasted like basic beef. Not awful, just disappointing for the price. 3/10 It’s lovely to see an African restaurant in the city centre, especially one that is halal-inclusive, but I feel the portion sizes are small and the prices don’t fully match what you get. With the meat dishes or specials, they could easily add white rice as a low-cost side so customers leave fuller. I do like the range of traditional dishes. I mean, where else am I going to find halal cow feet to review for you lot? 😂 Overall, the food has potential and I like what they’re trying to offer. However, the portion sizes and the inconsistent customer service make me unsure if I fully recommend it yet.
