Never written a review before but just had to because of how terrible this place was

Arrived around 11pm on a Saturday night, pretty quiet so we go to order at the bar ( which had nobody waiting ). We stand for a few minutes whilst the staff have a chat which is understandable and we weren’t fussed. After that a couple of the staff members just fully start dancing to the music, still ignoring us but fully aware that we are there. After about 8 minutes of waiting, still at an empty bar, we get served 2 cocktails which comes to Ā£24 and were told to wait at our table

After this we wait for 20 minutes (whilst people who ordered after us get served) and then we finally just go and ask for a refund as we can’t be bothered to be there anymore.

It got worse when the man at the bar refused to give us a refund us after asking so many times. We said we were in a rush to leave and needed to go right now.

He then said ā€˜your drink is being made as we speak’ and then proceeds to go to the other side of the bar and make it himself, in front of us, after telling him that we were in a rush and just wanted a refund. We weren’t making a fuss, nor were annoyed. We just wanted to leave.

The bloke then proceeds to pour the £12 cocktails into plastic cups and go on to serving someone else as usually so we just leave and bring them with us.

Wouldn’t recommend. Cocktail was bang...

I spotted this place on the way to my hotel after an incredibly long train journey, thought the name was fun, and looked it up online. The cocktail menu looked great so we decided to pop in for a drink before heading out to a gay bar, only for that plan to fall apart as soon as we got to the Bootlegger - we immediately started chatting with the staff and ended up spending I think ten minutes talking on the door before remembering we were going to go in and buy a drink. Izzy, Tam, and Callum were absolute babes who were so friendly and welcoming, we ended up coming back the next night instead of going somewhere else, then stayed til closing because it was such a fun atmosphere. Hanging out by the bar meant we made friends with half the other people upstairs, because everyone in there was so lovely. The cocktails were amazing, and I'm gonna have to come back to try more of them (personal favourites were the Bootlegger Bramble and the Old Fash & Maple Syrup, but this place did the best Espresso Martinis I've ever had as well) so I've gotta come back to Brighton soon. Literally just for the Bootlegger,...

i saw that this bar had high ratings and came last night. the bar itself looked quirky and nice enough. however, the security working created an incredibly uncomfortable vibe for our table. he initially began by trying to argue with me over using the toilet then tried to lie to the rest of my group that the bar was shut at least an hour before close. i’d like to note, me and my friends are young and queer which seemed to be the opposite of the rest of the demographic at this bar which is the only reason i could think of as everyone was polite and not rowdy at all. my partner was being specifically targeted and he was continuously rude to her and trying to accuse her of vaping inside at one point (bare in mind she doesn’t even own a vape? i thought he was joking!). but it actually seems he was just looking for a reason to argue. other than his horrible energy, the rest of the staff seemed lovely and the...

Done up beautifully. Only been once for live jazz. It was wonderful. Wasn't expecting people to be dancing and selfishly it was a little off-putting as felt the space wasn't there. It's done up amazing. Great to have a spot in town offering something different. Would like to see the different music move around the nights and days as we can't go out during the week as work and kids and would love to do the Havana gig but would need it to be on the weekend. Staff super friendly. We tried lots of cocktails and they were all nice. Not as strong as some places I've had drinks but fun none the less. Looking forward to going back. It had a basement which again looks cool. Only gripe it smells like a basement.

I absolutely love going to The Bootlegger. As a regular, I can't get enough of the prohibition-themed ambiance and the delightful selection of cocktails. The 20s-60s music adds a charming touch to the whole experience, making it feel like a trip back in time. The standout was definitely the talented bartender, James, who crafted the most exquisite cocktails with finesse and flair. The mixology skills are top-notch, and each drink was a delightful masterpiece. Even when I'm unsure of what I want, James crafts the most amazing off-menu cocktails that never disappoint. I highly recommend Bootlegger for a nostalgic and enjoyable evening out.

The experience was quite disappointing. Staff were very young, and clearly not very trained. There was a 2 for £14 cocktail offer which would went for. Good selection of cocktails you could pick from which was a plus. Sadly though, the cocktails themselves were quite weak and not the best tasting- sadly not value for money. The establishment has nothing for customers in to order in terms of sides, or nibbles, or anything to accompany your drink. Quite sad actually. To top it all off, the atmosphere was terrible because it was playing cringey music at an insanely high volume. Overall, would never visit again.
