Absolutely delicious meal after a long walk in Buxton. We aren’t local so we asked someone local walking down the street for a recommendation of good pub food and she instantly said the The Old Sun Inn. Her expression told us this was the only place to try. We were not disappointed. We had the small fish & chips (not small by the way, very generous portion) which was beautifully cooked in crisp light batter and the chunky chips were fluffy on the inside, crispy on the outside. We also ordered the vegan chilli dog which was also very generous. Served in a lovely soft baguette. It was filled to the brim with delicious sausage and tasty chilli. We opted for pudding despite already being full but couldn’t resist. The lemon tart and trio or sorbets were also to die for. The staff working were very welcoming and accommodating. The allowed us to make a few tweaks and they made the visit all the more enjoyable. Will definitely go again if we’re ever back on the area. The perfect place to end a day of exploring Buxton & the surrounding area. Big thank you to the team working there on 21.08.23 at 17:30ish

Cosy, dog-friendly pub with excellent food and good selection of drinks including cocktails and beers. We came here for dinner on a foggy Friday at the end of October and it was so good we came back again for dinner the next day! The menu has the usual suspects: scampi, burgers, Mac and cheese, but also home made pies. We chose the cheese and onion pies which come with mushy peas (or garden if you prefer), chunky chips and gravy. The pies were perfect and proved to be a substantial dinner - just right after a foggy afternoon's walking. Our son in law went for the gammon and turkey pie and was equally impressed. The Mac and cheese with (and without) bacon was lovely and came with a good amount of salad and a couple of slices of delicious garlic bread. Our Saturday evening dinner was just as good. The beers are well kept and the espresso martinis (instead of coffees) were very good. Service was friendly (a bit slow on Friday) and helpful. Everywhere was clean and all of the dogs were well behaved. Our dinners were good value for money and we will return when next visiting Buxton.

This was our first visit to this pub. As soon as we entered we were kindly asked to check in with the QR covid app. We requested a table outside as it was a beautiful day. The lady took our drink orders to link in with the table in the beer garden. She directed us to our table and it was very well laid out. Even though most tables were taken you didn't feel like they had crushed you together. Less than 3 minutes later another waitress approached us to check that someone had taken our order and if we would like a menu. The drinks arrived very quickly and were very reasonably priced. I wasn't sure what food to order so the waitress asked what my choices were and she made a recommendation. The portion sizes were generous and very tasty. I would highly recommend this lovely pub. The staff were so welcoming and friendly which really helped the atmosphere.

We returned to Buxton post Covid for our Anniversary staying locally to enjoy what is to us a very lovely place with many memories. It was decided that we would go to the old Sun Inn as it was local to our location so off we went. Outside there are signs telling that this pub did indeed do food(menu on the wall and signage) so we thought brilliant. My partner sat down as I then went to the bar to find out the situation etc unfortunately this is where it all went sideways. The lady that was at the bar was just pouring a pint so I asked politely about food to which she said something to me about 5 o’clock which tbh confused me so I thought best to clarify by asking for an explanation, this wasn’t received very well at all but she said “we start serving food at 5 but you won’t get a table as we are very booked up” It did come across quite rude and with a slightly negative attitude to the fact as far as they were concerned they had clients and weren’t bothered and that’s where we then left. At no point was I expecting this so needless to say somewhat disappointed by her lack of customer service and her attitude. I’m not happy that people possibly think that because they have custom that anybody else can be spoken to in this manner. I have read the reviews for this Public house so I’m not entirely happy to have to leave this one but I will always...

Having visited Buxton on many occasions we were in need of sustenance on our trip and wanted somewhere dog friendly. Our daughter googled and checked reviews in the rear of the car then gave us turn by turn directions till we saw the pub. We parked at the nearby High Street car park and wandered back to the pub. On entry we were given the warmest of greetings and were shown to a nice table in the corner, perfect for our friendly canine companion. We settled down with the menu and a bowl of water was brought for the dog. The decision were not easy as the menu looked great with so many nice dishes on there. After much to-ing and fro-ing I settled on the Beef roast dinner, my wife had the burger and my daughter had the children's scampi and chips. The food arrived and we were not disappointed, proper homemade Yorkshire puddings filled with gravy, well cooked roast potatoes, stunning red cabbage, succulent beef and I could go on. The other dishes were just as nice and clean plates all round. I was unfortunately to full for pudding but the others had the warm fudge cake and the chocolate brownie and I was assured they were again stunning. Throughout the visit the staff were friendly and attentive and all 4 of us were made at home. Definitely will be returning when we are in the area in the next...

Heading to see Francis Rossi and wanted somewhere to eat and grab a pint. Booked a few weeks earlier and had regular re.inders of our date and time 29/5 and 5pm ... great.

The sign said open at 4pm but the door was open at 230 so we wandered in and the bar was indeed open ... just because it was a very sunny day. Pint of Pedigree and a non alcoholic lager (from a small selection of options) and sat outside the front of the pub in the sun. Come 5pm we went inside, asked the waiter for his recommendation and he said without pause ... steak n Stilton pie! Freshly made today! Great ... we will have 2.

WOW ... lots of pie and amazing flavour. We are from St. Helens so we know our pies!

The food was lovely, staff friendly and very helpful, beer obviously good and the place was spotless. We would highly recommend the pub and pie!

Only slight negatives. On a bright day outside the pub is dark inside ... so take your sunglasses off before you go in! ... and such a shame thst out side the front of the pub the main A road has a constant parade of slow moving or static traffic outside.

The only reason for 4 star atmosphere was ... we visited between 2.30 pm and 6.00pm on a Tuesday! Everywhere lacks atmosphere then.

But overall ... we loved it (and Scriveners pre loved books...
