With its selection of exquisite cocktails hidden up a staircase and behind a sturdy locked door, getting in to 81 LTD is part of the fun - a text message the day before to book, a secret code texted back, and you're all set to go. Keying the code in to the keypad next to the door reveals a hall of mirrors that leads you in to the bar - this is an entrance that is sure to impress.

However, once inside, it's a different story. For a bar where you are ostensibly booking a spot, 81 LTD was vastly overcrowded on the Saturday night when we visited - in the end we had no reserved seat (or even perch spot), no waiter service, and had to fight our way to the bar to get served. Whilst our drinks were excellent, I couldn't help but feel they would be far, far, better to have half the number of people inside - much more in keeping with its fellow...

This is for me a new bar in a new city, and on the whole these boys are crushing it. I’ve been going probably once or twice for a few weeks now, and it’s amazing. Tonight however I went further, I had a cocktail upstairs in their speakeasy and it was incredible. Anton (the French guy) made me an excellent Manhattan. The owner and the Irish bearded bandit and the rest of the squad couldn’t have been more hospitable. It’s an absolute must in Liverpool whether your a tourist or a local, you must get involved with this crew. They have nailed what I can only describe as a perfect atmosphere! Bartenders need to focus on doing their job and actually noticing who is waiting for a drink and NOT skipping them for attractive ladies.

Was waiting for about 15 minutes to get served, seen by the bartender in the process only for them to skip me and take the next order from a lady exactly next to me that was there for a fraction of the time I was.

Normally not fussed with delays as long as they are justifiable. That wasn’t.

Ended up not ordering anything as that behaviour pissed me off. The bartender did not even apologise when they did notice my frustrated reaction (and no, I did not swear at them, just pointed out the fact they were wrong doing...
