Bill’s is a well-known restaurant chain with a number of branches across London. We visited the Covent Garden branch this week to try out their new menu and had a great time. Not like most of the chain restaurants in London, Bill’s has personality, great food and service.
Tucked away in St Martin’s Courtyard on the edge of Covent Garden, Bill’s is close enough to the hustle and bustle but hidden away enough for a quiet (and delicious) bite to eat. The restaurant has recently been revamped and it is absolutely gorgeous. Oozing with style and decadence, there’ is a lot of seating across the two floors and also a large outdoor area which twinkles in fairy lights at night.
The atmosphere is chilled and there was a lovely relaxing ambiance whilst we were there. The staff are so helpful and also a lot of fun and we enjoyed our experience even more because of the staff here.
The food is so good here! We started with a sharing platter called Health which had smashed avocado, hummus, ancient grain with smoked tomatoes and olives and kale crackers. This was like a sharing platter sent from vegan heaven! The avocado smash was perfect with tasty spinach in it too, the grain was full of flavour and we loved the smoked tomatoes. The hummus was smooth and delicious and the kale crackers (which sounded far too healthy) were so tasty!
For our mains we had the Carrot, mushroom and cashew nut Wellington with artichoke mash and vegan gravy and the 10oz dry aged rib-eye steak with smoked tomato béarnaise, rosemary salted chips and roasted tomatoes. I will start with the wellington – wow! It was beautifully presented, full of flavour and the pastry was crispy and melt in the mouth all at the same time. I had not experienced artichoke mash before but it was really tasty – with perfect seasoning. The steak was a big old slab of good quality meat, cooked just right and the béarnaise sauce was the perfect accompaniment.
I was trying to behave myself so only had the one cocktail – the Hedgerow Fizz which was prosecco poured over a frozen blackberry with elderflower cordial. It was very tasty and didn’t last me long… also an absolute bargain at only £5.95! The rest of the cocktail menu looked great and the most expensive one was £7.50 which is just such good value.
I cannot say I have visited many chain restaurants in London and come away thinking that place was great – but Bills really was! The service was fantastic and the food was really top notch. I would recommend visiting Bills – especially the Covent Garden branch as it’s...
Read moreI want to share with you what we experienced yesterday, Saturday, June 7th, 2025, at 11:00 in the morning. We were a large group and what we saw truly shocked us. There were two managers present, Silvia and Christine, whose names we found on the review card they gave us. Their behavior left us with a very negative impression—especially Silvia, who was extremely rude, never smiled, and served us as if we owed her something.
Both of them showed arrogance and a complete lack of respect not only toward us but especially toward one of the waitresses. They were mocking her, making her do all the hard work, like lifting a huge box full of glasses again and again for two hours, while they did nothing but stand around and whisper to each other, making faces and laughing behind her back. They treated her like she was their pet or servant, and they spoke in front of customers about how “we need to make money,” with no regard for the customer experience or the wellbeing of their staff.
The only person who was kind, smiling, and professional was that girl. We later found out her name is Mariana, only because we asked her. She was incredibly polite and respectful, and she was the only one who made us feel welcome. While the managers humiliated her, she kept doing her job with a smile and didn’t say a bad word about them—even when we asked her about them, she said, “They’re good, I love them.” That alone shows what kind of person she is.
As for the food—it was nothing special. Several dishes were overcooked and dry, and one had a hair in it. When we asked Silvia if the amount of food we ordered would be enough, she said “no,” pushing us to order much more than needed. In the end, we had food for 30 people while we were half that number. No one asked us if we enjoyed the food, if everything was okay, or if we needed anything. Only Mariana cleaned our table and politely thanked us.
The glasses were dirty, smelled bad, and overall, the experience was disappointing. We didn’t feel any kind of hospitality—only coldness and disrespect from the two managers, who instead of leading by example, were making the atmosphere worse for everyone.
I felt the need to send this message because what I saw was not only unprofessional but unfair and demeaning to someone who clearly works hard and gives her best. It is not acceptable in 2025, in London, to see such behavior—neither toward customers nor toward an employee who’s simply doing her job with kindness...
Read moreDo not eat here, there are better options nearby without subjecting yourself to the hostile and uncomfortable service. We were extremely disappointed by the audaciously rude service at this restaurant, which was beyond normal. We attended for a brunch yesterday at around 12 noon as a party of 3. One of our party has a serious allergy. This was made clear on the booking and when we arrived the first server was very helpful and informed us he would check with the kitchen to confirm which foods were safe but he was confident they could accommodate the allergy.
However, a second server arrived at our table some time later. He was immediately very cold and abrupt to us and commenced the conversation with “what do you need?”. When informed about the allergy, the server stated that none of the foods were safe to eat and that he did not need to check with the kitchen. Now, allergies are tricky and the guest is an expert in his own allergy - if nothing was safe, that is fine. However, the MANNER of this server was so shocking we actually left. He was rude from the outset and somehow aggravated by the allergy issue. This was an uncomfortable, unnecessarily stressful and petty experience.
If a stranger had spoken to us as he did, let alone someone we have booked with in a restaurant, I would have something to say. We got up and left. Clearly this restaurant do not need the business, but I do not need to waste my money. What a completely inexplicable way to treat strangers in for food at your place. The venue is very nice, the menu seems well thought through, but the man who served us quite literally poisoned the place and I haven’t stopped telling people about it. He made absolutely no serious attempt to make amends when...
