I’m still in shock at what happened here — not just the incident, but the staggeringly rude way the restaurant manager handled it from start to finish.
A bottle was opened nearby and the cork shot across the room, hitting the side of my neck with force. It could easily have been my eye. Not a single staff member came to check on me — I had to speak up and say something myself.
The person who opened the bottle later came over to apologise sincerely. After seeing my encounter with the manager, they even apologised again to the person I was with. I truly appreciated that. They also offered a dessert as a gesture, which in theory was nice — but we’d already said we were too full, and it didn’t address the seriousness of what had happened.
I approached the manager simply to raise my concerns about how dangerous this could have been, and that’s when the situation took a shocking turn. His first words? “Mistakes happen” and “It didn’t hit your eye, so why are you complaining?” There was no concern, no apology — just complete dismissal.
Instead of taking ownership, he immediately spoke to me in a patronising and antagonising tone. He twisted events to claim I’d been shouting (I hadn’t), kept telling me I was “creating a scene,” and repeatedly gaslighted me. Every time I tried to explain, he interrupted or deflected, making me feel attacked and humiliated in front of other diners. It felt as though he was intentionally trying to push me to the edge so he could turn the blame back on me.
When I called out his arrogance, he actually called me arrogant in return. For every point I raised — whether it was about safety, service, or courtesy — he replied with the same mocking line: “I could say the same about you.” This wasn’t conflict resolution; it was an attempt to make me look unreasonable and to shut the conversation down.
Then came the jaw-dropping comment: “You booked through the app and got 50% off, so what more do you want?” As if my concern for safety was just a ploy to get something for free. It wasn’t. We paid the full bill. I simply expected not to be struck by a flying cork and then treated like I was the problem.
When I asked for contact details for someone above him, he refused outright — clearly knowing that by not giving me anyone he reports to, he would never be held accountable. He even said he didn’t care if I wrote a review, which says everything about how little he values feedback or customer experience. Apparently, he is the most senior person in the restaurant — which is worrying given his behaviour.
What makes this even more upsetting is that this was supposed to be a celebratory meal for my cousin’s 16th birthday — she had travelled to London for this occasion. Instead of a special evening, we were left shaken, embarrassed, and deeply disappointed.
This wasn’t just bad customer service. It was arrogance, deflection, public humiliation, and a total lack of care for customer safety or experience. A simple accident became one of the most distressing and humiliating dining experiences of my life — all because of how the manager chose...

Came for a friend's birthday dinner, 8pax for Saturday evening, ordered from the set menu as we were a big table.
Conclusion : Won't be in a rush to come back again
The restaurant had 2 floors and we were sat downstairs, the interior was nice - catered more towards people 18+ ~ 20s. They had a DJ who looked like they didn't want to be there, sat in a chair and didn't look like they were doing much. Music was way too loud for us to have any conversations and we were literally screaming at each other to make sure others hears us over the table.
The service was alright overall : Had to ask about 3 times to get tap water, where our drinks came first before water and we saw 3 waiters next to the bar just chatting and not doing anything. We do understand that we were a big table with lots of requests and the waiters were brilliant at accomodating for us.
The food was appauling really. The sushi was good, duck bao buns were mid with funky textures, prawn dumplings were good. Mains (thai green curry) was inedible (7 out of 8 of us had it). It was so salty that I had to ask the waiter to bring another, which was also too salty but didn't bother complaining as I didn't want to cause much fuss. For the dessert, vegan cheesecake was actually really good and choc cake was mid , you can tell it was pre packaged and not made on site.
The whole course cost us £45 each + 12.5% service charge added automatically.
AND we were told we werent allowed to take the food home because it was from a set menu where each individial food item was discounted. This does NOT make sense as we have already paid and we are taking away OUR food. Poor excuse to add on more food waste for them.
Like I said, not in a rush to...

However this is possibly the worst place I have been to with respect to service. They messed up our reservation and didn’t have any tables for us which made us wait for a long time in the cold And then when you finally get to a table it was meant for 4 instead of 5.
The staff is extremely rude and standoffish with a special mention (you really deserve it) to a guy called Udit (Saw his name on the badge he was wearing). Extremely disrespectful and with an attitude problem, when sorting out our table, which they had messed in the first place, he showed us to a tiny table but even before we could get to the table another party came and sat on it and he immediately said - “This is what you get for waiting or asking for other options, now the table is gone, take it or leave it”. Definitely not the kind of assistance you would expect in even a local Chicken shop or Deli, let alone a restaurant.
We almost left, but somehow reconsidered it when the rest of the staff offered to resolve the issue. One of the only reason to give 1 star to service.
The food is actually really good and the sushi’s in particular have a lot of variety and all fresh and flavourful. And thus I really feel bad for the chef being let down by his entire staff - waiting as well as bar - for the drinks are just about average.
All in all, never going back until the staff is either trained better or get an attitude adjustment. And would NOT recommend anyone to waste their time and money in this place yet.
Gura Gura for me was very Bura Bura (Bad...
