I booked a table for my wife’s birthday, I specially asked for the tables downstairs, when I arrived the lady sat us upstairs in a tight space.
When I asked her about the seating downstairs she told me that it was closed, they only have the upstairs open. So I told her I had a booking for downstairs, she then told me that it was open but it would close at 9:30pm (I had arrived at 8pm, and they close at 11pm).
After insisting that I had specifically booked a seat downstairs she told me to wait, and then came back and ushered me downstairs with no explanation. Downstairs I found many diners, and three tables empty, we were sat down and our server was polite, and friendly, throughout the night more and more people came downstairs to dine, so they lose a star for that, would’ve dropped it lower if it wasn’t for the service provided by the other servers.
The garlic wings were too salty, and not edible.
The wasabi prawns were lovely, and the satay chicken was juicy, and could’ve been eaten without the dipping sauce, but the sauce was great.
The Singapore laksa was creamy, and flavourful, the Penang laksa was not to my wife’s tastes but I thought it was okay, so naturally I gave her my Singapore laksa which she enjoyed.
We ordered dessert and as requested they brought it with a candle and sang my wife happy birthday 🥳 which was really nice of them, and they did it with genuine smiles.
Really wanted to give them 2 stars because of the experience with the First Lady, but the three servers I interacted with downstairs were really friendly and nice.
Would go again for the food, but would walk out if I had to deal with the...
Read moreAbsolutely fabulous place and food. Please ignore the one star reviews, as if you read some of the replies from the owner, the guests caused trouble and then complained and left a bad review as a revenge.
I visited today and had starters: Malaysian lamb sate, Wasabi prawns, Softshell Crab and as main I had Signature beef curry Lo Mier and also a desert (the only thing I took photo of unfortunately).
Omg!!!!!!!
When we entered the restaurant, the young lady was just bringing some meal out to other guests and as soon as she put those down, she went to me to ask if I'd like a table (there was two of us). I said yes and she did ask if I have a reservation, which I didn't.
She took us downstairs, which was brilliant, as we had a view of the kitchen and could see the chefs in action. It was not an issue and she was friendly and very attentive to us the whole of stay.
The place is spotless!!!! Tables get cleaned regularly and the toilets are absolutely spotless too. Nice modern ones.
During our main, the chef himself came to our table to ask, if everything is ok. This was such a surprise and not expected at all.
Thank you Sir, for doing so, as it was such a nice personal touch and was much appreciated. As we were getting up to leave, later on, he thanked us from behind his kitchen counter and said to hope to see us again.
The starters were exquisite!!!! Especially the crab. And the main? It was such a lovely tasting meal. Best I've had in a while.
Thank you Chef, and all the kitchen staff and all the waitresses too.
The place is a...

The venue is right off Oxford Street closer to the Tottenham Court Road station. As you enter the decor is beautiful and functional. However maybe the tables are a little too close together.
Being Malaysian heritage, we can be very fussy about food. It’s a thing to think we know all the best places for particular types of food and where to get it.
Some of the food did impress. The satay and wasabi prawns were excellent and just as I would expect. The satay was super authentic as was the accompanying sauce. Some dishes were different but still excellent like the won ton Lo Mein and Melaka Laksa noodle soup.
Other dishes seemed to have been adapted or just lacking a bit in flavour such as the Wat tan Hor noodles and Fried Kway Teow. I asked if the roti was fresh and the staff must have misunderstood as it was clearly a frozen, reheated type, so best to stay away from that.
Other than that the staff were great and checking we had all we needed and clearing the table proactively.
If this place did fresh roti canai it would be game over as they probably would do it justice. As roti king in Euston appears to have a bit of a monopoly on this iconic and delicious dish. And nobody else is even trying.
So the visit unfortunately a bit hit and miss but overall keep to the Laksa solids, Lo Mein and starters and you won’t go wrong. The satay again...
