Firstly, the coffee taste is mmmm and the decor is fab. I just came there as I love to try new things. I found out about the place through Facebook. Key points they weren't too busy and that's why I liked it even more. It's south of Canary Wharf so away from the hectic centre. A good location in my opinion. The girl said hello when I walked in so that was a positive. However, I asked for a cortado and she asked me is that the small one. I wasn't sure if she is confirming my order or asking me as she doesn't know how to make one. The Italian guy hardly gave eye contact and the till was playing up. No communication. They could have also explained or showed me the menu, as I did want to have breakfast. It was very confusing to see it on the board. Menus should be in front on a clipboard as well. Not all of us have great eyesight. The presentation of the coffee was not as expected according to the ads. I did expect some art or nice shape. The service time was okay and they served it to the table. However they need to tell you that you can pay later or to communicate and just say take a seat and I'll bring it over. There was no communication whatsoever. Training should be improved. This place has huge potential. Coffee taste is excellent. Service needs to be on point and presentation is key as well as first contact. Would you like to see our menu? Would you like anything to eat? Perhaps a brownie? Our cake is freshly baked etc. Would you like to take a look at our breakfast or lunch menu? Please take a seat and I'll bring your coffee over. One moment please sir the till is playing up. Are you having a good day? Some simple banter or communication can improve it along with a smile and...
Read moreHugely disappointing. Decided to take a 20 minute walk in bitterly cold weather out to this spot on a Tuesday evening with my girlfriend. I saw that it opened late, so thought we could grab a quick coffee to go. We were told by a member of staff immediately upon arrival that she "could not serve us", because they close at 9pm - what a charming welcome. But I was sure we'd made it in time. Checking my phone, thinking I was going mad, I saw it was only 8:40pm. Bemused, I asked why she couldn't serve us, and the staff member mumbled an excuse relating to the coffee machine and said that she could only give us a cold drink, or fruit. We walked out shocked. The name of the shop is Canary COFFEE. It apparently closes at 9pm. And yet if you show up comfortably before closing time, you could be denied the very drink that appears in the name of the venue itself. Coffee. Absolutely bizarre. I have no idea what the limit is as to when someone can visit this shop, and still get a coffee. If you show up at 8pm, or 7:30, can you get a coffee then? When is the cut-off point? With all that said, I think it's a shame that this was my first experience with this shop, as its interior looked pleasant and I can see it received many favourable reviews. However, after the combination of not being able to actually order a coffee from this "coffee shop", along with being greeted so abruptly, I will NOT be visiting this...
Read moreI cannot deny that the place is beautiful and the atmosphere is super nice. However, their service is absolutely awful & disrespectful. After I sat down there for almost 2 hours, I went to the bar to order a pastry as I was going to stay there for longer. At first, I ordered a brownie, but 2 seconds later I asked her if I could change it, I realised it was too sweet and it was quite early. The waitress then started speaking awful stuff about me in Italian; but she didn't know I speak perfectly that same language so I understood everything. She was complaining cause I changed the pastry within 2 seconds and contemptuously she was saying cause it was due to the price, as the brownie is more expensive; like shaming on me. This is not for bragging, but dear, I live in CW (lit 2 min away from the hotel) by myself and I have my own successful business... I can perfectly pay £2 more for a brownie; I just didn't fancy it at that exact time. I can imagine already how many customers this lady has offended in Italian and of course, on their back, when they make their selections. These are the little details that stop clients for going again to places. Now I know this place is out of my recommendations; service is priority, even more than the environment...
