About a week ago, I was in France. Okay, not actually France, more like Little France on Brick Lane, but Chez Elles Bistro simply feels very French. From the interior with wine maps of France on the walls to the waiters and waitresses to the wine to the food - everything screams: Vive la France! And this is a very good thing. Chez Elles Bistro is a lovely little French restaurant where you least expect it.
For starters I ordered duck rilettes, and it was incredibly delicious. I had an excellent Pinot Gris with it, a white wine from Alsace, and I really enjoyed it. It reminded me a little bit of a good Riesling.
For the main, I ordered the burger. This was probably not the best choice, I admit, but I wanted to keep some of the other dishes for another visit. The burger tasted very good, it was only a tiny little bit too rare for me. But that could easily be resolved by specifying how I wanted it, so that's fine for me. I was also a little bit disappointed by the fries. They looked nice and crispy, but they were soft and not as crunchy as I prefer my fries.
The chocolate cake then made me forget the main and instead made me like this place even more. It was rich and moist and not too heavy, it just tasted great!
All in all, Chez Elles Bistro is a very good French restaurant. If you like French food and wine, I cannot recommend this place...
Read moreI went to this restaurant with my partner, wanting to celebrate a special occasion and having read the good reviews online. The starters were nice and there was a good selection of dishes I wouldn't expect on any menu. The mains were, unfortunately, a bit more disappointing given their proud price. The bouillabaisse my partner ordered could have had more fish in it and the squid in it was cooked too long and rubbery. I ordered the cote the boeuf which was grilled/charred and tasted very burnt. Overall, the selection of mains was what you would expect in any French restaurant with few interesting options.
The service was quick and friendly but not rushed and the atmosphere of the place is nice. Clearly a lot of thought had went into the decor. Unfortunately, we were sat next to a French couple (the tables were extremely close to each other) who commented on our order, not realising I could actually understand what they said.
Overall, we still had a nice evening but left a bit disappointed having read the great reviews. If I was to go again, I would probably go for a nice glass of wine and a selection of the starters, leaving...
Read moreWe were craving some French food and stumbled upon this little gem in Brick Lane. We started with the rillette, which was simply amazing — the flavours were rich and full of depth. For our mains, we had two onglets with fries and lettuce. I have an allergy to mustard, and they kindly made a special dressing just for me, which I really appreciated. The portions were generous, and the food was delicious.
For dessert, we couldn’t resist and ordered three: the crepe suzette had a lovely flavour, and the tarte tatin tasted just like something your grandma would bake fresh from the oven — truly handmade and comforting. We also tried the pistachio crème brûlée. While I’m a huge fan of both pistachio and crème brûlée, I personally prefer the original crème brûlée version.
At first, we were a little put off by a somewhat cold waiter, but then the owner took over and completely changed the atmosphere. She was so warm and lovely, making the entire experience feel much more welcoming.
Highly recommend this place, and we'll definitely be back! Real French restaurant, approved by French...
