I came here for a lil solo date a few weeks back. I chose Christophers after researching into where I could find the best French Toast in London, so was keen to give it a go! Upon arrival I was attentively taken to my table. I booked a table in the Martini Bar, as it was just myself. The area was not so busy when I arrived, having booked a table for 14:30 (I was told by the waitress that it had been much much busier earlier in the afternoon!). I waited a little while for the waitress to come over to me, though not notably long. Despite this, the waitress apologised for keeping me waiting, which I thought was a nice touch. I put my order in and waited for the famous French Toast to arrive, which was reasonably speedy. I was astounded by what arrived. The French Toast looked exactly as the pictures I had seen, and was the perfect temperature to begin tucking in. The Toast itself, being brioche, was beautifully buttery and sweet. It was incredibly soft inside, having been soaked and cooked for the perfect length of time. There was a slight crunch also, which was a lovely contrast. The ice cream was one of the best vanilla ice creams I have ever tasted, so creamy and a super strong vanilla flavour but not at all "synthetic". Now - the chocolate. I cannot emphasise how good the quality of the milk chocolate was, nor how much there was! Not only is there a beyond generous pot on the side of the French Toast with this liquid warm gold, there is a copious amount of it spread between the slices! I did not need much of the chocolate on the side because of this. I have to say this is one of the best, but also perhaps the most rich/indulgent dish I have ever eaten. I was most definitely in a sugar coma for a few hours following eating it! I would recommend going for this when super hungry, as despite having a big appetite, I did struggle towards the end because it is so rich! Still, as £18, I was not going to be leaving any behind! Do I think it is worth the price and hype? Most definitely. Great service, great atmosphere, and...
Read moreChristopher's Covent Garden. This is a perfect example of high expectations being met but and it's a big BUT, we found a strand of hair in one of our dishes. This was addressed and the outcome was somewhat satisfactory. Don't stop reading just yet as these things happen and I really believe this place is a gem. Hospitality and service was A1, very accomodating and hospitable staff. I loved the look and character of the interior. Bar downstairs has a very nice cool vibe to it, worth a visit for sure (watch this space). You do get a nice view of the city from tables next to the window but beware of the cold draft as the windows have to be kept open for covid. Now let's talk food. Rather than going for my usual Amaretto Sour, I settled for the Toffee Sour which has Bacardi spiced rum in it. Whoever made this drink deserves a tip. Execution was on point. I might have to test him/her on the Amaretto Sour next time. Beef tacos - a bit on the greasy side but when it is seasoned this good, you can't complain too much. I did panic at the size of them being a starter lol. Quantity = A1 Truffle fries - This has to be the best truffle fries I have had. Seasoning/texture, it just worked. Not a single chip was left unattended 😂 Chicken Breast - The aroma once the plate hits the table is so good you might just forget to say your prayers. Very well seasoned, not greasy at all and made to perfection. Looks a bit on the small side but you should be fine with a side. French toast dessert - This is their signature dessert hence the £14 price tag lol. Diabetes on plate literally. My recommendation is to share this across the table. The brioche bread was amazing and in my opinion the dessert works if you only add just a bit of the milk chocolate syrup (I made the mistake of drowning the toast all the way🤦🏾♂️)
I will definitely be going back for some more and I think the bar needs a separate review.
Amazing dining experience all...
Read moreI have previously been to this restaurant in 2020 and the food is very nice. I decided to book this place again for my mum's birthday to which she was very disappointed along with our family members.
Firstly we were seated and waited around 20 minutes before we had to ask for some water for the table. A further 10 for our drinks to order to be taken. Time management was poor and it looked like the waiters were unsure of who was serving our table. We then ordered our food and the wait time was ridiculous around 40 minutes. the food came and that's where it got worst.
My mum ordered the Lamb and the size of it was tiny, not even a child would be satisfied with the size of it. Mac N Cheese with lobster which had no more the 2-3 small pieces inside it- very underwhelming.
The kid's food- the chicken was dry, and the burger was disgusting.
The tacos were very nice but the portion size was small.
The Mac N Cheese was replaced with a burger which was near enough raw inside, we asked for well done and it was very pink on the inside. For another burger that was ordered the Bun was soggy and wet.
To round off all of this the CHEF came where the waiters stand just under the door of the dining area. He was watching over us, arms folded sometimes behind his back in an intimidating manner, as if we were in the wrong for raising complaints about the food. the proceeded to get involved and argue with us which was surprising and very unprofessional.
The waiter that looked after us was very understanding and was very honest when refunding food after we paid for it.
I cant stress enough how disappointed we were and it...
